"Maxim" magazine: pure crap
I think so, anyway.

Sure, I appreciate a comely female form as much as anyone, but I hate this junk magazine's manner of presenting such or just about anything else. I've seen a few issues, lately, and I have found a few gems buried away inside each, but most of the magazine's garbage. It's like a men's magazine (the naked-picture kind, that would be) for neutered wimps...it's one thing to suggest without showing, but Maxim is just censored, playing it boringly safe while thinking itself edgy and hip. Not that I care, because it's the editorial tone that gets to me: smart-alec (and not in a good way...an unjustifiably superior tone that probably goes right over the pointy heads of many of the magazine's adherents) and dripping with overtones sexist, downright misogynistic, homophobic, and xenophobic. It is, perhaps, the perfect magazine for the Average American Male F***wit, Millennium Edition. It's the magazine equivalent of the overweight frat boy who wears the "No fat chicks" T-shirt...obnoxious, narcissistic, and just asking for a swift kick to the gonads.

I hate it, and the smarmy little f***wits who think they're so clever in their editorial glory. Total junk, regardless of the occasional hidden gem and bodacious babes.

F*** Maxim and the frat boy it rode in on.

3. Who you callin' old?
:P

Not mine, anyway...just happened to be in proximity to them when I needed some reading material. I doubt I'd have felt a lot different about the thing when I was 24, though.

a Mature, distinguished, gentleman like yourself sure could find less more tastefully, erotically inclined material. :-)

8. The truth? You can't handle the truth!
I read Seventeen.

Actually, that's not true -- then again, it's really me who can't handle the truth. :-)

15. A handy euphemism:
In the commentary for "Sideways," actor Paul Giamatti describes his co-star Virginia Madsen as "bejugged." I hadn't laughed so long and loud in ages. :spray:

18. I loved "Sideways," but the DVD commentary
with Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church is even better than the film.

6. Every magazine of that ilk sucks shit.
Ooohhh..great idea! Cheap beer, misogyny, silicone, airbrushed cellulite, sophomoric "humor".

What an original concept.

Maybe a magazine that actually has a theme that hasn't been played out 4573895473089457308954 might be worth reading. Such publications are painful in their banality.

10. True
And they all have the useless-gadgets-to-buy advertorials that are a sad echo of what Playboy used to do (I say "used to" 'cos I haven't seen an issue of that venerable franchise in so long).

13. Lad's mags
Loaded -which they are all based on - was sensational when it first came out in 1994.

I just don't think they translate that well to the US.

The Brit versions werea lot more arch and knowing.

16. I had a friend tell me it was a good mag
I thought I was too old for it and he said "Naw, it's for men from 18-40" so I got a subscription. I read through a few issues and then let them pile up. I just threw away the stack not long ago with most of them still in the plastic.

It is a rag in my opinion with nothing much to offer. Ok, some of the women were pretty good to look at, but what good does looking do?

21. And half of it's ads anyway.
I enjoyed looking at the half-nekkid wimmen, the one time I saw an issue, but after a few minutes I concluded that there's no there there.
