My Carbon monoxide alarm was going off this am.
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 06:37 AM by purr
I slept like total crap last night. Around 5 this morning, I hear this ringing noise. I'm like great.. now I have tinnunitis (sorry bout butchering the spelling). So I go do my morning routine and this ringing wont let up. Im like ok this is driving me nuts.. either I'm going to the ER to find out why I have this loud ringing in my ears or theres something making that noise.

So I go to my 1st floor and the noise got stronger.. I'm like hmm... so I'm not going nuts afterall. I head down to the basement and it is so loud down there my cats wouldnt follow me down. I couldnt find the stupid co2 detector because my dad was installing my new plumbing lines for my bathroom and he moved it.

I call my dad and tell him one of the alarms he put in is going off like mad - and I cant find it. He comes up, finds that its one of my co2 monitors. He installed like 5 of them in my house - and only that one is going off. The other ones are reading 0.

He doesnt think its anything since the other 500 of them are at 0, just the one thats about 3 years old was going nuts. Should I get it checked out professionally??? My furnace seems to be working ok, and its only about 5-6 years old. My bird is fine as well as the cats - who I would think they'd be the first ones affected by it.

edit its not co2... shows how much sleep i actually got.. carbon monoxide detector. co... duh

2. No battery in it.
At least from where I can see. It plugs into an outlet.

4. My furnace guy told that me that the alarms are only good for 3-5 years
For the hardware store quality ones. The sensor may be bad. Or it could be the battery.

Reminds me, I should check mine and the smoke detectors.

6. This one is probably about 2-3 years old. I guess I should get a new one.
The one that went off doesnt have a battery. I know the one in my room has a battery backup, but actually runs off of electricity.

I'm just glad I'm not losing it and it was just a faulty detector. Do you have a radon detector? I was thinking of getting one of those.

13. I don't have a radon detector. I did get a radon test when I bought
my house. There was none detected at that time.

7. mine plugs into the outlet, but also needs a battery
don't ask me why  when the battery is getting low it always seems to go off in the middle off the night or early morning. The battery compartment for mine is on the back, it takes a 9V. Not sure if that helps or not.

8. I just got one recently
and the instructions said to not put it any closer than (I think) 20 feet to your furnace or hot water heater because there's always a burst right as they "fire up". If you're in doubt, call the fire department and ask them to come and check it out.

10. unplug one of the other alarms
take it to the spot the 'ringer' is at. plug it in there and monitor the levels. IF it doesn't ring I'd tend to think the original is faulty some how. OR be on the safe side and call your utility company and have it checked out.

12. Mine went off last new year's eve
I called the Fire dept. on New years day after I plugged the monitor in and it rang again. I have birds and they were fine, so i wasn't too worried but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. The fire dept. came over, checked out my place and said everything was fine. They told me those things don't last too long and they told me the brand to get, but I forgot what they told me.

Yours is probably just spent.
