http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060221/GPG0101/602210555/1206/GPGnews

Cause of death: Mismanagement coupled with anchor store loss due to a bad economy, and two Major Competitiors in Appleton, and one suburban mall near Lambeau Field which managed to claw its way to the top.

Shame, really. I loved that mall wehn I was a kid because it was the one with escalctors.

1. Where is that located?
I only know of Bay Park mall... and I avoid it like the plague. :scared:

5. This was the downtown mall.
The one with two levels. Used to have a J.C. Penny's Prange's/Younkers, and a Boston Store as anchors. IIRC, The Younkers' was in an old building that was taller than the mall, the top floor had a restaraunt with an amazing view of Downtown Green Bay. I remeber how much fun the multi-level parking garages were, too.

10. I think it's University Avenue until it crosses the river.
Then it divides into one-ways of Dousman and Shawno.
But yeah, I know which one you mean. There really isn't much there anymore.

16. IIRC, there were six tenents left.
Out of a mall with a capacity for 80 or so stores.

2. But... but... but business in America is doing great!
In the Los Angeles area I live in, we have countless small businesses closing up shop. They can no longer keep up.

3. Was that the older brick one,
with a bridge from parking?

If so, that is a shame. The one and only time I was in Green Bay that was one of my stops, I thought it was very cool. Much better than those sprawl megaplexes.

4. That's okay - it will soon give the downtown the chance to be rebirthed
as a yuppie fuck haven for Chicagoans, and fill up with ridiculously inept and inappropriate "French" "bistro" restaurants and galleries selling shitty art painted by women who wear layers of scarves and thin materials and homemade jewelry, and shops of mediocre pottery and overpriced "antiques" and "curious" for the yuppie illinois scum to buy by the half-ton on their summer littering, drunken destruction, and pretentious assholery flaunting excursions vacations to Door County and Green Bay and area.

Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 08:11 AM by HypnoToad
Well, our "interests" that is; America is being left to rot. The eco-exodus. What remains will be used to bomb the terrorist countries before they annihilate India and China; who cares if they aim for the US?

17. That mall never should have happened ...
I spent most of my mid-teen weekends cruising that mall with my posse of galpals.

It was a monstrosity that was generally half empty, and the city 'visionaries' bulldozed more than a few historic (in local lore) and attractive storefronts to plop it in the city center.

Then a few years later, up pops East Towne and Bay Park Square Malls with free parking, and the same stores, and viola! City Center is empty. What a waste.

19. Gotta love the Bush economy
The Montgomery Mall (Mongomery, Ala.) is on its last legs as well. But Wal-Marts that pay minimum wage in perpetuity are going up everywhere.

20. Yeah, they just put up one of their supercenters near Stevens Point.
Now they ar closing the one in Stevens Point. The worst part is that the City Bus system does not run to the new shopping center outside of town.
