Apartment in Santa Monica
Does anyone know where I can get an apartment without a deposit in Santa Monica or the surrounding area?

I can pay $700-$800 a month, and am not too picky. I'll take a bachelor - I just need to move very soon. It's not a good idea to stay where I am too much longer.

2. Sorry to laugh, but I think you'd better find a roomate
that already has a rent controlled apartment.

6. Koreatown?
"... $700-$800 a month..."

You could get a decent, possibly a one-room, apartment in Koreatown near Wilshire Blvd.

A lot of Koreans and Hispanics(mainly from Central America) live around these places.

But if you want to live with whites, you will have to pay that extra premuim. :-)

I go to school there. Nowhere decent to live. There's a Metro stop, though.

Try NoHo around Lankershim/Magnolia. Good restaraunts, some local theatre (even a deaf theatre that's doing "12th Night") and a few local art galleries, just off the corner of L/M. That's where I live by myself and you can get a decent 1 bedroom for $800. And there's a Metro stop if you're into that sort of thing. I'ts kinda far from the west side, but you'll be living under the pier or on the Promenade with a cup in your hand if you try to live in SM by yourself on $7-800.

Just a thought.

I'm sure you're aware of them, but just in case try Westsiderentals.com for a fee or craigslist.com for free (that's how I found my place in NoHo)

11. About 7 years ago...
I know, LA has really changed and prices have gone up, but I found a reeeaallly nice studio apt. in Brentwood for $675/mo...I lived in it all thru grad school and my first few years of work. Thing is, I got the info from the UCLA housing office & they're pretty strict about just allowing students in there. Great listings, though, and lots of nice guest-house situations. I know you probably aren't able to take advantage of student housing listings, but just in case you can swing it, check out listings around UCLA...

12. Westside Rentals
is a good place to look for a roommate situation. I found my current place in SM (north of Wilshire!) through them. I'm paying $800, though I put down a deposit. Most places will require a desposit, but if you're moving into a roommate situation, you might be able to swing a deal.

What's going on at your current place that's so bad, if you don't mind my asking?
