"windows sytem error. IP address conflict with another sytem on network"

I keep getting this window popping up and I lose my internet connection. The other PC that running doesnt have this problem.
I have to unplug the router for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and then its fine for another hour. Then that damn error window pops up again.
What could be causing this? My kid is telling me that my ethernet cable is pinched and that is the problem. Its not pinched that bad.

I'm fairly technically-proficient and this was getting the best of me.

Finally, I called my ISP. Cable modem was functioning erratically. They replaced it, everything has been fine since.

9. Yes.

We have two desktops and one laptop. At least two are running at the same time.
We've had this setup for a couple of years now and this IP address deal started about a week ago. I called my ISP and they blew it of saying that all three of my computers are messed up.

10. It's an internal networking issue.

Can you get into your routers web config? If so, you can assign each machine a unique static address and that won't happen anymore.

Something is horky with DHCP on your router.

since you rebooted your router.. the first machine has the ip address but the router doesn't know it.

leave the router up...
reboot the other pc, so it grabs a new IP from the DHCP pooled addresses.
reboot the one that was complaining in the first place (it will be assigned a new address)..

all should be well now.
