Flashback to the 70s: Anyone remember "The Book of Lists"

I remember when this book came out. They put a copy of it in our school library in the reference section and all of us were checking it out - especially the chapter on lists about Sex. We were like 13-14 years old and here was a book in our school library that talked about the 10 best sexual positions, the 30 busiest lovers and other juicy details about a topic we were really just starting to understand.

About a year later though the school board caught on and left the book in the reference section but somehow magically the sex section was removed

I just found a copy of the book at a used bookstore and was reading it again. ANyone else remember the Book of Lists? They put out like 3 versions but I check amazon and seems a new one came out in 2005

1. Nobody who was a teen in the 70's in this country could forget it.
My friends and I used to quiz each other on it, that's how much we were into that book. My parents loved it just because it got my sister to read.

5. Ok - let's test you. There were 7 positions listed as the most favorite
what were they?

8. Un, well, officially, that sort of decadence didn't interest me.
Ask my parents, they'll tell you. ;)

(Kidding aside, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought there were two entries in that category, one per a guys' poll and one per a ladies' poll.........?)

11. They had 7 listed and mentioned the popularity with men & women
I don't have the book with me but I think I could come up with the 7 positions from just reading it last night.

An added bonus there was mentioned about how sucessful and getting pregnant with the positions PLUS the advantages & disadvantages to each one

21. Great to hear about The People's Almanacs
they were loaded with great stuff and had a bit of a lefty spin. I remember PA#1 had a list of all the things we could be doing with our military budget.

23. They had the 5 most hated people as polled by Madame Troussounds
I'm still figuring out how Jimmy Carter could be in a top 5 list that included Count Dracula and Adolph Hitler

28. I believe the final Book of Lists, in its "Most Hated" category...
even included Mike Adamle, who was the host of "American Gladiators" at the time. How in the heck that happened, I have no idea.

27. Ah, yes. It all started with "The People's Almanac".
I remember getting that book for Christmas, 1976. It included a glossary of every "adult" term that one could imagine, and I was just about the age to really appreciate it.

I owned all the People's Almanacs AND Books of Lists. It's too bad the Wallaces aren't still churning them out today. The "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" series has sort of taken up the standard, but those books are nowhere near as sophisticated or great as the original Wallace books.

29. Actually they put one out in November
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1841957194/sr=8-3/qid=1144184863/ref=pd_bbs_3/104-8467578-9444763?%5Fencoding=UTF8

But you know, after that first volume they toned down the Sex Chapter and the series was never quite as good as the first one.

Even still I might have to buy myself a copy of the book

30. Wow, thanks for that, LynneSin!
My mom was a librarian, so I always found out about these books beforehand and was able to get my hands on the latest one!

But that, alas, was a long time ago.

Nice to see they're still in production, though.

And I agree, after the first BOL and PA, they never were the same, but they were still pretty good.
