2. pollo campero

It's great and it was started in Guatemala. Unfortunely there are very few in the US but my small town has one. I in the past would have went with Popeyes but since this place opened up a few years ago, its been my favorite fried chicken chain.

4. You should have your eyes pecked out of your head
for even putting KFC in the poll.

You know what? Sorry. That was a little harsh.

You should have a chicken peck at you, but be far enough away that you have ample time to safely pull your hand away, while still becoming mildly startled by the bird's actions for even putting KFC in the poll.

I hope this ends any lingering stress between you and I.

7. Popeye's uber alles. You'll be licking your fingers all the way to the
coronary care unit!

Best chicken and sides by FAR, IMHO, although pricey for fast food.

El Pollo Loco probably should have been included for completeness, but Popeye's still gets my vote.

29. I just finished a book recently about what is in chicken nuggets
It is "Not on the Label: What Really Goes in the Food on Your Plate"

The thing that "bothered" me the most was the pages explaining chicken nuggets. They are up to 80% chicken skin, compressed, breaded and fried.

that they gave Beyonce a lifetime supply of fried chicken because she gushed about how much she liked on "Cribs" (now, wouldn't that be nice?!)... as I recall, her whole fridge was basically Popeye's leftovers...

19. Zankou Chicken, the best anywhere
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 06:18 PM by kwassa
roast chicken with an incredible garlic paste

http://www.zankouchicken.com/chicken_zankou_aboutus.html

quote:
"The best chicken in town at any price: moist, juicy and fragrant."

-- L.A. Times

The first Zankou Chicken opened in 1962 in the heart of Beirut, Lebanon by Vartkes Iskenderian and his family. After serving Lebanon's diverse community for 20 years, Vartkes and his son Mardiros Iskenderian sold the business and moved to Los Angeles, California. In 1984, Zankou opened its doors in Hollywood at the corner of Sunset and Normandie. Centered in the heart of America's motion picture industry, Zankou attracted thousands of aspiring actors, writers, artists, and musicians with its delicious, inexpensive meals.

Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 12:42 AM by UCLA02
They're going for the yuppie crowd in Glendale and at Santa Monica/Sepulveda, but Sunset and Normandie is where it's at. Parking is shit (the homeless guy/valet will direct traffic for you for the change in your pocket to help you park), and the neighborhood is shady, but mmm mmmm good.

25. Dutchland Dairy
When I was a kid visiting relatives in Wisconsin we used to get fried chicken and frozen custard at the Dutchland Dairy. They also had white soda which I've never had anywhere else. It isn't cream soda or a lemon-lime or citrusy drink. It's hard to describe what it tastes like .

Last time I eat there not only was the chicken greasy but I found a hair in my potatoes.
I think that KFC should have the word chicken in quotes in its name.

28. Obviously most people don't know Roscoe's
owing to the fact that they're not a widespread chain (if they've spread beyond Los Angeles, it's news to me - correct me if I'm wrong) or it would be a complete shut-out. Comparing Roscoe's chicken to KFC or Popeyes is like comparing filet mignon to a day old, microwaved cow turd.

30. Fortunately we don't have Popeyes here, or else
I would weigh 300lbs and my cholesterol would be the same number. My husband and I got some the last time we were down south and saved the biscuits in the fridge for the morning. My rat bastahd vegetarian little sister stole my biscuit and finished it off right in front of me. I hope it had lard in it.

but have cut way back on going to them because of their founder's extreme views on religion. I do think they have a really good chicken fillet sandwich so it kills me not to eat them as much as I would like. Oh well.
