I found a checkbook register from 1974.. wow what an eyeopener
We deposited 1340 a month

rent-175.00 (a 3 bedroom brick house on 1/2 acre with a brazillion trees)
car payment for a chrysler 2 yr old Vista Cruiser wagon $83.00
food- about $140 a month
gasoline @ 38 cents or so a gallon...gas credit card for 2 cars ran about $35 a month
no medical insurance premiums (totally employer paid)
apparently I paid $29.00 for a black party dress
I paid $38 for my son's baby shoes (special order Stride Rites... A-width
paid $5 to renew my driver's license
bought a wool coat for $75.00
life insurance ...$32 a month

The biggest amount was the $400 deposit we paid for our deposit on our Jamaica vacation..

Those things. Check stubs, canceled checks, utility bills etc. I have some a least twenty years old.

I think sometime in the future our grand children will enjoy exploring those used to bees.

... checking account stuff going back to 1973 when I got my first account.

Without looking, I remember my mortgage payment on my first house I bought in 1978 (and sold in 1979) was $275. That won't even pay half my real estate taxes now :(
