My HS is going for its 1st state football championship in 100 years!
Tonight is the big night for Ballard High School in Seattle. No, I'm not a big football fan, but I have a deep attachment to my alma mater.

Ballard High was founded on the shores of what's now the Lake Washington Ship Canal in 1903, and their mascot was originally the Shingleweavers. Now it's the Beavers (not much better, IMO!). In the '20s, they built a new school at the corner of NW 65th Street and 15th Avenue NW. The school has gone through some tough times through the years. Six years ago, the '20s building was torn down and the district built a beautiful, amazing new facility that includes, among other things, a biotech academy.

Ballard is the traditionally Scandinavian community of Seattle, so I will leave you with a cheer from years past. This has to be one of the craziest high school cheers from ANYWHERE:

Lutefisk, lutefisk!
Lefse, lefse!
All for Ballard High School,
Ya sure, ya betcha!

:toast:

2. My grandmother always made the men eat lutefisk in the garage
LOL...

I wonder if the garage would be considered a Superfund site today!??!

5. My local HS football team can beat yours
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 09:59 PM by JackSwift
And probably your local college team too. Heck, De La Salle could probably whip the Niners. Never been to a game though. A 10 year winning streak isn't teaching the kids about life, now is it? Nor is it suspensful.

We got clobbered by some mountain boys. Earned a new respect for hillbillies that night, heh.

11. My high school team hasn't had a winning season since 1975.

The record of St. Louis Park (MN) in the past 12 seasons is 5-61 in conference play and 20-91 overall. We had a 38-game losing streak from the end of 1992 to the 2nd week of 1997. I only witnessed one conference victory (at home to the other shitty FB team in the conference) when I was in high school until I graduated in 2001.

Here's how we've done since 1992:

1992: 2-4 (5-5)
1993: 0-6 (0-9)
1994: 0-6 (0-9)
1995: 0-6 (0-9)
1996: 0-6 (0-9)
1997: 4-6 (independent season)
1998: 0-6 (0-9)
1999: 1-5 (2-7)
2000: 0-6 (3-7)
2001: 1-5 (2-7)
2002: 0-6 (2-8)
2003: 1-5 (2-7)

Under our current head coach, we've gone 3-27 in the conference, and 11-36 overall. :-(:-(:-(:-(:-(

12. Great job, kids!
Ballard came up short to the mighty Pasco, 21-14, but they did a great job in making it this far. Both teams should be congratulated for their good work.

:toast: to Pasco!

:loveya: to Ballard! :bounce:

Both teams should be proud of how well they played. It's nice to see Ballard HS get some positive media coverage.

14. Thanks
I remember when I was in school there and how we celebrated when the team went 4-5 - you'd have thought we'd won Metro! ("Wow, we were, almost, like, .500! Woo Hoo!")

I like to see schools and towns be "dark horses" at this time of year. It was a good game, and I'm proud of all those kids, I really am.

:hi:
