19. Me too!
I got the LP with "Blue Collar Man" on it for Christmas when I was, I dunno, 12(?). I forget the name of the LP, but it had the Easter Island heads and some women in it, and, since it was the 70s, it was a gatefold cover!!

Loved them, until Cornerstone, which broke my heart with its simpering power ballads.

I like early, D&D inspired Styx, when the two brothers (Kurlowski?) were still in the band (they left right before Grand Illusion, which is also an amazing LP).

I heard the freaking back masking STYX was doing. You could heard it as plain as day:

"Bush's is Satan"

"Rove, Rove, Rove your vote"

"Rush is great"

6. Worst band ever
I too had some "youthful indiscretions" and bought a couple of their albums. I believe I was temporarily insane at the time. My parents should have had me committed for my own good.

7. Yuck
'Come sail away,
Come sail away,
Come sail away with me...lads!'

Lads!? Who the hell does Dennis DeYoung think he is anyway, Fletcher Christian?

Most Pretentious Band Ever. Ever.

8. I was a huge Styx fan...
and I still like them--the Tommy Shaw part of Styx, that is. I didn't like the Dennis DeYoung (?) part at all.

9. Well, they're amazing without DeYoung...
Anybody who says the band died when DeYoung left has no taste. I saw them this summer, and it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Full of energy, and the new songs were great.

11. I guess the non Styx fans were listening to disco.
It was big back then, but it's today's equivalent of Spears and Backstreet Boys, you won't have anyone wondering about them in 20-30 years.

16. They only had a few good songs...
Blue Collar Man
Miss America
Too Much Time On My Hands
Borrowed Time

Otherwise, no. I never thought much of them. Their 1991 "comeback" in particular, Show Me The Way, should be forever banned :)

17. Well, I like 'em ...
They do have a few cringe inducing moments, but IMHO most bands do.

I think its cool to hate arena rock right now. I don't know why. It's just power pop with added keyboards.

Same thing goes with "progressive" rock. It's cool to hate it these days, but at least those bands weren't doing the same damn thing that had already been done over and over again.

20. Where do you think my name comes from?
Welcome to the grand illusion
Come on in and see what’s happening
Pay the price, get your tickets for the show
The stage is set, the band starts playing
Suddenly your heart is pounding
Wishing secretly you were a star.

But don’t be fooled by the radio
The tv or the magazines
They show you photographs of how your life should be
But they’re just someone else’s fantasy
So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because you never win the game
Just remember that it’s a grand illusion
And deep inside we’re all the same.
We’re all the same...

So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because your neighbors got it made
Just remember that it’s a grand illusion
And deep inside we’re all the same.
We’re all the same...

America spells competition, join us in our blind ambition
Get yourself a brand new motor car
Someday soon we’ll stop to ponder what on earth’s this spell we’re under
We made the grade and still we wonder who the hell we are
