Poll question: Choose my new webpage!!!!
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 03:17 PM by AWD
I have three entries to choose from as my new webpage. My staff dismissed one from the island already, and we are down to the final two choices.

Three votes will determine which one I use.

My staff will vote on one, the local Democratic leaders will vote on one, and DUers will vote on one. Whichever page wins two of the three votes is the page I will use.

Here are your choices........PLEASE TAKE NOTE that one of them is already housed at my URL. This is ONLY because thatperson finished first, and I need a new design before an online fundraiser that begins tomorrow.

Choice #1 - http://chernev.net/jeff/index.html

Choice #2 - http://www.jeffseemannforcongress.com

OK, go vote! PLEASE give me reasons why you voted.

1. I voted #1
It's easier to understand the structure. Very straight-forward. Plus, I like the penguin...it gets the attention of positional donors w/o distracting from the rest of the page.

#2 has a font that to hard to read & it's to "busy". It tries to give to much information at one time.

5. I also suggest a site-meter.
That way, you will know where your hits are coming from. I suggest this company:

http://www.sitemeter.com/default.asp

They are free & pretty good.

So show you what they do, go to my site and scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see the SiteMeter icon. Click on it.
You will be brought to a page where it breaks down all the traffic info on my site. (Hits per hour, per week, ect, ect.) Note on the left side of the screen...you will be able to see little charts broken down by different categories. Lots of fun.

6. My server handles it
Tiger Technologies. They have quite an in-depth hit counter and meter.

3. #1 was easier to read
May seem like a small thing, but at least on my computer, the type was bigger on #1. Makes a difference with us older folks (who tend to vote in high percentages). #1 was also less cluttered and I went right to the text, not being distracted, and liked what I read. Also liked your photo being larger on #1. My only regret is that you don't live in NW AR and could come defeat the person in the Third Congressional District here!

9. I liked #2 better in general
1) It looked more "Congressional."

2) The smaller photo that was part of the heading seemed better integrated into the page as a whole. The larger photo on #1 was just sort of free-floating. Also, the background in the photo on #1 was hard to make out, but it looked vaguely as though you were standing in the door of a supermarket.

3) The penguin on #1 didn't work for me -- my first thought was, "Why is he pushing Linux?"

4) The text on #2 seemed more eye-catching, especially the line, "I am not a politician, but I know how politics work." And the centered paragraphs seemed more inviting than the flush-left paragraphs on #1.

However, I'd suggest two changes to #2 -- make the text one font size larger and sharpen up the photo a little. (It looks blury compared to the same image on #1.)

15. I agree with point #3.
I thought the same thing...what's with the Linux penguin. But I think he should keep it. Here's why:

1) It's cute.
2) People who know what Linux is will appreciate it, and assume you're pro-open source.

21. About the last sentance
Font is easy to change and I believe the creater of website #2 had a different banner, was asked to change it, she then asked for a certain size of the banner Jeff wanted to use but the banner wasn't big enough so she stretched the banner a little bit to meet the size requirements causing the picture to blur.

10. #1, but
It's hard to tell where I am in the navigation. Put a title at the top of each block of text, i.e. Meet Jeff, On The Issues, etc. You can leave this off on the home page, but it should be there for every other.

I agree with the comment about the photo -- you need something warmer, friendlier, more personable, more accessible. And include more of them, something different on each page, showing you doing all kinds of community oriented activities. Show people what it means to be a progressive, don't make them read about it.

I'm not sure what the Linux penguin has to do with winning your campaign. "Help us win in November" could mean anything from volunteering for your campaign to donating. I would label it more clearly as "donate now", and you might consider a "volunteer now" button as well.

Other than this, the site looks good and seems to function well in Mozilla firebird on PC.

14. Both of those titles are awful
you need something simple for people to remember.

Something you can easily put on a sign or say on the radio.

what about

jeff4congress.net
jeff4congress.us
votejeff.cc
vote4jeff.net
vote4jeff.us
jeffforamerica.com
jeffforamerica.net
jeffforamerica.org
jeffforamerica.us

etc

16. We're working on that too....
The URL of Choice #1 is only the address of it's current temporary home.

We'll be buying several URLs in the next few weeks. No word on which ones yet.

17. Number one--at first glance, it came across as more pleasing
aesthetically. And also it looks more professional. I didn't even check to see if you included the same things--issues, photos, etc. on each--mine was simple a reaction from a visual perspective.

Good luck!

19. I believe your picture on #1 looks...
...WAY to stern and self-righteous. It looks like you are greatly disapproving of something
or somebody. :)

20. Keep voting guys
1. The logo is the way it is because Jeff insisted on 'Jeff Seemann for US Representative - Progressive vision for Ohio'. It could have been made much better. I will see if I can come up with a better one. Point well taken :)

2. The pinguin. I wanted to put something to make people smile and click to donate. I'll try to come up with another button.

3. Jeff's photo. I didn't have much choice as Jeff posted only a couple of photos. I am sure we'll have a better photo pretty soon and then it will look better.

Keep voting and sharing your thoughts, so we can do our best and make the site as good as possible.
