Have you ever tasted your dog's food?
My curiosity got the best of me. His canned food is salmon- I took a taste. Not that bad. I could probably use it as dip at a party and no one would know!

1. Is this just me or were advertisers in the 80's trying to get kids to...
eat pet food?

Those ads for Sheba, Fancy Feast, and King Kuts made it look like the most delicious stuff on earth!

25. I still salivate when I remember Gravy Train ads
Just add water, and it looked like a steaming bowl of sirloin steak swimming in a rich, brown gravy.

With mashed potatoes and peas, Gravy Train would have provided one hell of a meal.

28. "Vets" was another one
It looked like refried beans. Whenever my cousin fed her dog, I couldn't help thinking, "Man, that would be great on a burrito".

Maybe we were just hungry a lot when we were kids.

2. I've always wondered
When they say dog or cat food is new and improved, how do they know? Who tastes it? I mean, dogs or cats can't tell you if their food tastes better.

Just one of those odd things I wonder about from time to time.

3. This bothered me when my son was circumcised and they told
me that he wouldn't feel any pain. Who polled a bunch of newborns on this? how do we know they don't feel pain, when adults who undergo the same procedure have said it's excruciating? :hi:

4. along those lines
"they" don't give pets much in the way of post operative meds because animals supposedly aren't as sensitive to pain as we are... how does anyone really know?

5. Uh... hmmm, don't invite me to your parties, ok?
No but really, even reading your question almost made me retch. Don't know why it is such a repulsive thought to me. Geez, I wouldn't even try baby food when my son was young! (I imagine I tried it when I was young, however).

Weird phood phobias I guess

Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 06:53 PM by AirmensMom
you sure wouldn't want to try it. I had a link ... guess I'll have to look for it.

Edit: There are too many to list. Just goodle "pet food euthanized" (without the quotes). :puke:

10. This is no ordinary dog food-
he is an older dog on a special diet that costs around $1.50 a can. He loves it. He may actually be eating healthier than I am.

12. Yes.
And there are a lot of varieties out there that are made so that pets/owners can have the same dinner. (See the Dick Van Patten line of foods)

But, as a former inveterate backpacker, we used to encourage people to carry at least 2 pounds of a high protein dog kibble instead of trail mix. You aren't as likely to eat the dog food the way you would the trail mix but if you got into a bind, the kibble would keep you going for some time.

16. That's an interesting and smart idea...
The idea of it being dog food would keep you from eating it until you really needed it, but it would still keep you going. Hrm.

24. Oh geez you guys, we can soooo exploit this!

Yes, it's the all new South Beach Lo-Carb Kibble Diet!

Eat as much as you want and still lose weight! That's right, just have kibble for breakfast, kibble for lunch, a mid-afternoon kibble snack, a sensible kibble dinner, and three bowls of water a day.

Guaranteed to make you lose weight, or your money back.

I am telling you, we can make millions if we market this right...

:bounce:

14. I bought my dog some vegetarian biscuits

...that had all human grade ingredients, they were like little carob cookies. The packaging said it was safe enough for humans to eat, and that the people who manufactured them would eat them as snacks sometimes. So I had one. Not bad!

he is my little boy, and Mommy loves him very much (but I don't have the nerve, nor the inclination, to even try the stuff from a can. hell, I can't even pronounce it. Eukenuba?)

27. I have it on good authority that...
on the M&M Mars pet food line there were bosses who actually tasted the stuff. One of the managing owners demanded that if the food wasn't fit for humans, it wasn't fit for their pets. I don't know if they're still doing the "taste test" with the changes over the past few years.

And, some high-end pet food companies insist that they use only human-grade ingredients, not the offal that some of the others use.

And, yes, I have on occasion tasted pet food, but only the stuff that didn't smell wierd. Some of it's not that bad.
