Well eharmony was quite the self-esteem crusher!
Yikes. I was rejected by 12 men I wouldn't want to be seen with anyway. That's $60 I'll never get back. Anybody had good luck with online dating?

7. eharmony creeps me out.
They make you take that endless survey before they ever mention what they're charging. And them calling someone whose survey results come closest to yours your "soulmate" is a bit of a stretch.

Still, the worst dating service situation I was in ever was years ago when I was literally locked in an office until the counselor had a chance to wear me down and make me sign a contract. When I got up to try to leave and found the door locked I had to threaten to break it down.

19. not sure about their current policies
In 2002 registration was free and allowed you to browse / search. To respond to an ad you had to compose your own ad and buy credits. Of course now I have a bunch of credits I'll never use since you buy them in increments of 25. It was still the best money I ever spent.

Actually, I do have to give people who post on that site and sites like it some credit -- at least it's honest. They want sex, they post that they want sex, they sometimes get sex. There's nobody pretending they want romance and long walks on the beach.

Plenty of people use Match or Yahoo to troll for sex, but hide behind "looking for my soul mate" profiles.

18. Yep
Had luck a while back with eharmony and luck this time around with match.com.

It takes time, and people will reject you based on just about anything. People tend to be far more fickle when it comes to online dating. Stick with it if you've already paid. It might pan out for you soon enough.

33. Oh-for-twelve doesn't really sound that bad
it can take a lot more than that. Figure that the ~50 crowd is looking more for a long-term relationship than a hookup, and the eharmony crowd ever moreso... even after narrowing down a few search parameters, like eharmony does, you'd have to assume that 1 out of every 12 guys is your soul mate to think you'd come up with a match already.

I guess it's easy for a guy to see it this way. We have to deal with far tougher odds from teens onward. One is 12 is NOTHING. Not to belittle your experience. But 12 "potentials"? You're not even halfway to warming up to start preparing to get ready to potentially begin stretching your muscles to begin the real search. Get back to us when you reach 200, then we can swap stories. ;)

The other half I am saving in case of invasion by the Nude Warrior-Women from the Planet Amazonia. Just in case.

34. Many of those online personals are fraudulent.
Some guy is suing Match.com and Yahoo for bogus profiles. He's seen the same ones listed in different cities. Or the site itself would send him a message, so he'd have to pay to reply.

Once as an experiment, I signed up with a bunch of personal sites when they were giving away free credits to try them. I've met a couple women. We didn't click. One had even had plastic surgery after her photos were taken (I thought she looked better before). I've since deleted most.

I have one in Nerve, plus some free credits for posting photos. But so far no one has impressed me enough to spend them. Then there's OKcupid.com which is completely free, but more fun just to take the tests.

37. Yeah, Yahoo personals are mostly fake
and it's obvious if you know what to look for: a single (only one) attractive headshot, followed by a large search range, large age range, a 5 lines of very general description that is correctly spelled, grammared, and capitalized. No other details.

Several, if possible.

But seriously, anyone know of any sites/whatever that try to hook us up across national boundaries? I know there is that humorous site - at least I thought they were joking. I'm planning a move to Montreal in a couple of months and, well, a boy's thoughts turn to love ... and filthy, nasty say-ex (fundy pronunciation).

38. I'm about to meet someone in person from eharmony
And no, he's not a fundy. He's a Wiccan and liberal as they come. We are meeting over Memorial Day weekend. He is the ONLY person I got through those numerous communication steps with. I had about 50 reject me before I got to him. He seems like a great guy and we have a lot in common. So hopefully the in person meeting will go well! If not, that's just the way it goes. I'm in no hurry to find a Mr. RadFem. I'll just keep looking. Craigslist has been a good place for me to meet people locally, too. And it's free.

there's a service called Great Expectations that charges huge amounts, $3000 - $5000, for their services promising wealthy professionals. They tell their female clients that most women that come there charge their services on a credit card with the intentions of finding the man of their dreams who will pay off the credit card balance for them.
