President George W Bush announced in a Memorial Day speech Monday that he was signing an executive order to rename the US Army the Republican Guard.
"Mah good friend and Great Amurkin Don Rumsfeld asked me to consider the name change," said Bush. "Why not? Army sounds like yur playin' with toy Army men in yur bedroom. It's fun but we need a name Amurkins can respect. Like Republican! And these guys guard us, right? So why not Republican Guard? This'll fire 'em up for November!"
When asked why he would choose to call the US Army the name used by Sadam Hussein's elite fighting force, the President replied, "Huh?" After a few bewildered looks, a hasty Google search by staff members, and a frantic whisper in the President's ear, President Bush smiled and yelled "April Fools, evurbody! Had ya goin', din't I?"
With that, Bush left the podium and was replaced by White House spokesperson Tony Snow. When asked about President Bush's apparent confusion over which holiday he was celebrating, Snow broke down in tears and sobbed, "I miss my Mama!"
