Poll question: DUers: The Beatles or the Stones?
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 04:28 PM by catbert836
After all, this is the ultimate "divides-the-world-in-two" question, so I'm curious what you guys think. And no, you can't say both. That's just a cop-out.

I'm going to guess most of you like the Beatles more.

And I'll keep kicking until I get a satisfactory sampling.

The penultimate question is The Dave Clark 5 or the Beatles.

7. You may be right...
But "A Bigger Bang" (the Stones' latest release) is probably their best work since "Exile on Main St.", and they're still excellent in concert (I saw them three times back in September).

19. You should check out their new album...
A Bigger Bang. For a bunch of 60-year old guys, they sure know how to rock.
And its amazing that Mick, especially can still move around the way he does on stage. I saw them three times in September. He NEVER stops moving. There was a study done that says he walks/runs approximately 4 miles each show.

6. I'm gonna say Beatles
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 04:30 PM by rockymountaindem
While both bands are great, here's what makes it for me... The Stones have a ton of awesome songs, but they put out so many albums, singles, compilations etc. over the years that a rather large share of their music is in my opinion, either filler or just plain crap. The Beatles, on the other hand, maximized the potential of each and every song. Listening to a long playlist of the Rolling Stones, there are a whole bunch of songs I'm going to skip. With the Beatles, I'd say it's 95% listenable material. With the rest, I know the Beatles were going for something I just don't appreciate, not simply phoning it in like the Stones did on many occations.

That said, I'd like to reiterate that they're both great bands. I just think the Beatles are greater.

11. I agree, mostly.
However, I voted for the Stones. What did it for me is that I've gotten to see the Stones three times, two of those times fairly up close and personal. Also, the Stones have managed to put up with each other for more than 40 years now, and you can mostly count on them to put on a good show, which is amazing as they've been rock's elder statesmen since the 80s.

Also, there's the fact that the Stones are still playing. The Beatles aren't. :P

13. I had to vote for the Stones.
The Beatles arguably had greater influence musically, but there isn't a single Beatles song that gives me that I-love-rock-n-roll rush that a Stones anthem gives me.

And the Beatles are long gone, but Mick and the Stones rock on!
