Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right now
You know the commericial...It is about too-frequent urination problem. Picked up my Mom's pills for it today. She bought it for $30. I asked the pharmarcist what the actual price would be... $283.66 for 30 pills. You start out at one pill per day and use two if that isn't working.
My point, the first step in controlling health care costs, is to not allow drug companies to advertise. These commercials are on all day and at peak viewing times. You can't advertise cigarettes or hard booze, then why in God's name can you advertise prescription drugs? It has to drive up the cost of the drug. Your thoughts?

13. First I would price how many adult diapers I would need per month
and then I would compare the monthly diaper cost against the cost of the pills...

but that's me...always looking for the bargain...

4. That's not even the worst example of those ads
There was one (no longer running) that literally made me sick -- the symptoms it listed sounded worse than any disease. (You know the one ... )

5. My doctor HATES those commercials!
He says it is totally maddening to have patients coming in *demanding* medications for a problem that may, or may not, be be treatable with the advertised pharmaceutical; all they know is that some commercials said it would fix their problem.

9. But
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 07:53 PM by EmmaP
Do people really go into their doctor and ASK for a certain drug? If you don't have enough faith in your doctor that s/he knows what's on the market and what would work for you, then I think it's time to get another doctor. And I really love the commercials for drugs that don't even tell you what the heck the drug is for - they probably don't have time because the side effects take so long to list!

10. It's true. Drug ads are designed to make you feel like you're missing out
On some good feeling or control of a condition -- they make it seem like a *right*. It then spurs an envy -- "they" have that, and *I* want that, too. All at terrific monetary costs.

Don't get me wrong, no one should suffer needlessly, but these commercials are very wrong, IMO.

16. And as an aside
I told the doctor that she had a urinary infection and we didn't need the more expensive drug to control her urges. WELL HOLY COW, the doctor said today, she does have an infection and don't use the gotta go medicine until she gets rid of the bladder infection...WTF
