Goofy Town Names that you like?
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 07:52 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
Skaggsville, MD.

I thought it amusing that the "Zippy the Pinhead" comic strip once included Skaggsville, a town I used to drive by on the highway, in a strip devoted to goofy town names.

Disclaimer: I'm sorry if anyone is from Skaggsville. I'm sure it's a wonderful town! The name just makes me laugh, is all.

30. Two Egg Florida
seems that back in the "good ol' days" the kids walked to town and traded two eggs for candy. I wanted the city limits sign really bad, but my husband explained that replacing the sign was this small town's biggest expense.

34. Jackass Flats, Nevada
In 1965 my family was living on Oahu. Dad was working for Lockheed Aircraft and the Navy didn't renew their contract. Since he had been hired from the Mainland, Lockheed paid to send us back. He had several choices of where to go: Saudi Arabia, Sunnyvale Calif., Jackass Flats, and Ontario Calif. (The guys who went to Saudi Arabia wrote back and told their wives to dump everything out of the luggage and pack Raid.) We ended up in Cucamonga, next door to Ontario, but I never forgot that it could have been Jackass Flats.

43. Monkey's Eyebrow, TN
Never been there, but when I worked retail for Da Man, and Da Man implemented a ZIP code survey, we decided to sabotage it (yeah we were a little immature) by offering folks one of two ZIP codes for us to input--the one for Monkey's Eyebrow just because we liked the name of the town, or (sing it with me, now) 02134 ("Send it to ZOOM!")

...I think I'm showing my age now...

56. It's actually in Lee County, I think... Know how it got its name?
Before there was a federal post office, residents of the area to be known as Dime Box used to deposit a dime in a box at the local mill to get a letter delivered to nearby Giddings.

I got the only speeding ticket of my life in Dime Box. 71 in a 55.

Deaf Smith County is up in the Texas Panhandle. Hereford is the county seat.

IIRC, the location of the town was moved to accomodate the railroad (or Texas Highway 21 - I always forget).
