my cat got out of the house ... need suggestions.

He ran out when my husband was leaving for work and would NOT come back in. He had no choice but to go to work and leave him. He did leave the garage door open so Rogue could take refuge if he so wanted.
When I got home after my shift at work (about 9 hours after husband had left)the cat was still no where to be found. I went to the back door called his name and he came running.

Problem ...
The other two cats HATE him. They have been hissing and spitting at him. The cat yowling is really getting to be awful, it's like they are going to attack him at any minute.

We've tried taking rogue on our lap and brushing him, stroking him, anything to give him 'our' scent so that the other cat will 'recognize' him again.

Any suggestions from anyone on what we can do to help this situation?

3. all 3 are fixed, males

The one that got out (Rogue) has been ours since he was 6 weeks old. We've had him for 5 years.
The other two, Blackie and Rascal are brothers. We've had them for 3 years.

Rascal and Rogue are usually VERY friendly. Rascal thinks/acts like Rogue is his mother.

Blackie is more aloof, preferring to be stingy with his affection, but got along nicely with Rogue.

5. The only way to get my cats to come back

Was to open a can of tuna ...so they could hear it. When they hear that they come running. Tuna is not a that good for cats, but they love it, and so as a treat for coming back, I will give them the tuna but try to keep them inside as much as possible. My cats are indoor cats, so they will never worry about things like fleas, tics etc. I also give them the indoor cat food. Has the greenie stuff they need which they can't get indoors.

6. Probably have to separate them in diff. rooms and reintroduce

them to one another gradually over the next week. For what its worth, we shake the plastic container that we put the cat food in or open a can of tuna when our cats want to wander outside past their curfew. They usually come then. Pavlov's cat.

7. Ignore "Rogue" and give much attention of other cats. They are jealous

and 'are protecting their turf. If they feel safe "Rogue" will be able to do his thing. Make a fuss over them but watch them like a hawk in case they try to gang up on him.

Can you separate the two aggressive ones and let him try to get used to just one of them at a time?

8. Found this info:

Keep the cats in separate rooms for a few days. Then exchange rooms so that they can reacquaint themselves with each other's scent. The door should be kept closed so that there is no interaction between the cats at this time.

After a few days of room rotation, let the cats see each other, but not have contact with each other. This can be accomplished by securely wedging or hooking the door so the cats can peek through the crack but can't fit through the opening. Feed the cats something especially delicious on opposite sides of the door. You can also tie two small toys together with a string and slide it under the door so that when one cat bats at the toy, the toy on the other side of the door moves. The goal is for each cat to associate good food and good times with the presence of the other cat.

Praise the cats when they are near each other. It never helps to scold the aggressor. If either cat becomes extremely hostile or frightened, close the door and try again later.

When the cats are relaxed with the sight of one another, then it is time to open the door. Let them be together for only a few minutes at first, gradually increasing the time each day.
