Does filling out online petitions do any good?
I'm debating filling out one to send to the "R" senators, asking them not to support new legislation that'll put the contents of the DOMA (thanks Wellstone, amongst others) into the MN State Constitution.

Do republicans actually change their mind on issues if enough people speak up?

I don't think it makes a flying ficklibg fig of a difference.

I'm also angered by who introduced this crying shame (Michele Bachmann of Stillwater and Mary Liz Holberg from Lakeville). Two holier-than-thou women who must be married to gay men. If she wants to decide who I marry, she can go so far and marry me. Fascist, they are...

More than half the country's heterosexuals can't stay married, so why the frack are they so concerned on a marriage's definition? :eyes:

I did fill out and send the petition, with my comments - driving home the issue of the wastefulness of time and taxpayer money, and suggesting they concentrate on keeping people married to their first spouse. (I was so angry, I could have said any number of things, including some choice words about the Republican party, but didn't.)

2. I don't know about online petitions, but letters can work
Letters to the editor that get printed for many to read.
Letters to your reps and senators--maybe one won't change their mind, but if they get enough it just might.

Anyway, it doesn't take long to compose a letter and quickly send it to you Rep. I'm willing to take a couple minutes and do it every time I have a concern because even if it doesn't work, it's better than doing nothing. I have to TRY.
:)

3. Trying
True. Otherwise we're part of the problem if we don't try.

And I fully intend to do more; leaflet campaigns, salvation dollar bills (there's no way I'm leaving the inhuman creeps alone), and so on.

5. Sometimes
They may be effective in convincing politicians who are on the fence on an issue to make up their minds. But far too often, the Repugs already have their minds made up, on the wrong side of an issue. Still, every little bit helps. I'm sure I've signed hundreds of online petitions, and who knows, if just one of those petitions made a difference, it was worth it.

7. Then why do we care who runs for the Democratic candidate, or care at all?
To drop it would let them win.

They're not worthy of winning anything.
