Bob and Ray

(or in this photo, Ray and Bob)

I just revisited some tapes of their routines.

I think these two guys are hysterically funny - yet I can't explain why. They talk about totally mundane things, yet they have me rolling on the floor with laughter.

Anyone else think like this?

1. Yes!
They are hilarious. Keith Olbermann is a big fan as well, which is cool........

2. They used to do radio ads in NYC
One was for a bank offering IRAs or something, in the late 70s. Guy's daughter brings home her fiance, the lead singer in the Scumbuckets. "That is the name of your punk rock band, right?" "right" "So how do you propose to take care of my daughter on a punk rocker's salary?"

"Well, we have annuities linked to our t-shirt sales, and the songwriting royalties are automatically deposited in our retirement plans..."

"Scumbuckets have RETIREMENT PLANS."

"Plus of course our Chase IRAs and..."

"Oh, Hit Me With Your Meataxe baaaaaby," that IS the name of your hit single, right?

It's funnier when you hear them do it, but the disbelief in "Scumbuckets have retirement plans?" has me laughing 30 years later.

The guys trying to sell raw cranberries for cranberry shortcake cracked me up too.

3. Wow! You're going back some
I used to listen to them when spending summers at my grandmother's in Ann Arbor. They had a regular show on Mutual Radio (who remembers that network?). They were so funny! Always had a routine starting with " 'ley Baleu reporting" inferring a late remote connection. This was back in the days when public comedy was always wholesome and comedians were talented enough to not need the crutch of swearing to get a laugh.

:)

4. They're still funnier than most comics today.
And I loved that Bob Eliot joined his son, Chris, on "Get A Life." That show was seriously underrated. In fact, so is Chris.

5. I'd piss myself laughing at their routines. Why?
Maybe they appealed to the dufus in me.

6. Haven't heard 'em in years
But they made me laugh all three of my asses off.

Much like Hudson and Landry, famous for "Ajax Liquor Store."

It'll cost ya 99 cents, but it's hi-freakin'-larious. http://laughstore.stores.yahoo.net/hulaajlist.html
