Moondance
Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

Can I just have one a more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

Well, I want to make love to you tonight
I can't wait til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you can't hide

One more moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight
On a magic night
Can't I just have one more dance with you my love

--- Van Morrison

8. Post 'em if you got 'em!
I have always loved astronomy. I was never a math genius, so it escaped me as a career choice, but when I took it to get my required science credits, it was one of my favorites classes. When I lived in Flagstaff, I would go for special telescope watching events at Lowell Observatory - like when Mars had its "drive-by" a few years back. :-)

9. Tucson has a great amateur astronomers club
They will set up scopes en masse for special sky events. When the comet hit Jupiter, there must have been three thousand people on the UA mall to take advantage of the club's scopes AND the big one in the planetarium.

By the time I got through the line at the observatory scope, Jupiter had set. The astronomer on duty took pity on me and sighted in on a special treat for my old eyes... Orion, my ol companion and dance partner for long winter nights... but with the help of that monster scope, I got to see the nebula.

Wow. That worked!

Here are some of my fav sites:

Hubble Gallery http://heritage.stsci.edu/gallery/gallery.html

an interactive planetarium: http://www.neave.com/planetarium/

and another: http://stellarium.sourceforge.net/

Aurora galleries: http://spaceweather.com/aurora/gallery.html

Time lapse of sky/storms http://www.cosmotions.com/ (I look at the one with the lightening storm when I miss Tucson in monsoon)

And, it is a marvelous night for a moon dance. Still 65 degrees up here in Montana. May have to chase Havocdad around the back yard for kicks and giggles here pretty damn soon. Rest of the town is at the football game. NOBODY peeking

5. moonshadow
Oh, I'm bein followed by a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow
Leapin and hoppin on a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow

And if I ever lose my hands, lose my plough, lose my land,
Oh if I ever lose my hands, oh if.... I wont have to work no more.
And if I ever lose my eyes, if my colours all run dry,
Yes if I ever lose my eyes, oh if.... I wont have to cry no more.

And if I ever lose my legs, I wont moan, and I wont beg,
Yes if I ever lose my legs, oh if.... I wont have to walk no more.
And if I ever lose my mouth, all my teeth, north and south,
Yes if I ever lose my mouth, oh if.... I wont have to talk...

Did it take long to find me? I asked the faithful light.
Did it take long to find me? and are you gonna stay the night?

6. The moon will look 12 larger with this up and coming moon.
BTW love the song

Here is why.

The reason: The Moon is near perigee, the point on its slightly out-of-round orbit that is closest to Earth.

This Moon is called the Harvest Moon, owing to its timing of being nearest the autumnal equinox. Farmers in the past relied on it to harvest all night. The Harvest Moon is not always closer and bigger than normal.

The Moon will rise around 6 p.m. local time (compute exact time for your location). It will be officially "full" at 11:13 p.m. ET, though the Moon is never really full.

Some other strange Moon facts:

The Moon is not bigger when on the horizon.
The Moon is moving away as you read this. Far away.
There is no proof the Moon makes people crazy.
Late Monday night and into Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, the Moon will pass in front of the Pleiades star cluster, creating an interesting skywatching opportunity for skywatchers with telescopes.
