Why am I watching Star Trek The Next Generation?
It's the episode, early season 4, where Worf meets his human parents and Picard cries and whines to his brother about not defeating the Borg on his own. Ugh. :puke: (I could never see Kirk whinnying like that...)

3. Because it's a good show?
TNG was the best spinoff; DS9 was not bad; Voyager was fair; Enterprise was total SHIT!!

Besides, Troi was a hot babe...

5. To kill the time until the next episode of the revamped TOS airs?
Yeah, "Family" is a pretty weak Next-Gen AFAIC. And it underlines the absurd assertion that Picard is French. C'mon!

What do you think of the new FX in the revamped TOS? Personally, I think they laid on just the right amount, not too much which was my fear.

19. Well, the Okudas managed the technical aspects of the
revamped f/x, if their pedigree matters to you. Personally, I think the new f/x are tastefully done. And the remastering of the color palette looks light years better than the crap they put on the first DVD set.

41. That's true, I never undestood why they made a French
character, yet casted a guy who could only make him as British as British can be. I mean, he's a great actor and created a great character, just one who's name doesen't make much sense.

11. we've been working our way through all of them
seeing a lot of great ones we missed the first time around.

The beauty of Picard is his complexity - we recently saw the cool one where he experiences an ancient civilization in the most integral way.It is one of my favorites and it underscores the wonderful ideas, writing and the way that the characters grow.

warranted. That being said, I thought he was cool anyways. Punching Q was awesome, "Picard never hit me!!"

26. That was the one thing that bothered me about Sisko,
there were times when he'd pull some demanding shit for no reason. For example, O'Brian would say he needed 10 hours to do something, and Sisko would say "You've got two!" When Picard told Geordi to get something done in 20% of the normal time it was because the ship was about to explode; Sisko just did it for the hell of it...

32. That reminds me of a question that's been nagging me for years...
I remember an episode I saw once years ago where Q gets all the staff together (it must have been the first season because I think Tasha Yarr was in it) and offers to take away all their pain and hurt feelings and it had flashbacks of their pasts and then Picard says he doesn't want Q to take away his bad memories because that's the source of his strength. It's not in the DVD collection that I bought and I'm wondering if I made it up or if it was a real episode. Does anyone know the name and/or why it wasn't included in the DVDs?

34. Nope,
That's the one where Q offers Riker membership. The one I'm thinking of has flashbacks to Riker's home in Alaska and Yarr's home planet and Picard makes some speech like "I need my pain... it's part of who I am..." and he refuses to let Q take away his bad memories. Maybe it's not a real episode and just an amalgam of some others but I could swear I saw it...

37. Because it is a sacred and beautiful thing.
Even the shitty first and second seasons are now shining objects of hope and simplicity, crafted from the purest stardust. The show gained moral strength as it progressed and, by it's conclusion, showed us all how we could be if we were only better people.

Compare Picard to Bush and, if you can refrain from vomiting, realize that STNG expressed some of the finest human sentiments conceivable. We are further from that ideal today than we were fifteen years ago.

And Gates McFadden is hot.

44. The guy was assimilated!!!
Ghods know what the Borg did to him, I'd like to see how Sisko or Kirk handle the experience after being brought back.

Not only that but the Borg used his knowledge to give the Federation a good ass kicking at Wolf 539 (not like they really needed it to do that), so you know he blames himself for that.

So for that episode, and a couple others afterward, I always give Picard leeway to get himself back together.

The episode was "The Naked Time"

On another note, "The Wounded", one of the best Next Generation episodes not only introduced the Cardassians, but brought the effects of war up close and personal.
