Does anybody here use a Blackberry or Sidekick or anything like that?
Why? What are the benefits? How do I know if I need one?

Thanks,

Floog

it gets better reception than any cell phone I've ever had.

2. That is a good reason . . .
. . . especially if you absolutely have to be in contact with your family or business. :)

6. Yes, sir.
You see, Ptah, somebody that was here at the time does use one of those things. I did not ask whether or not you personally use one of those things. I just wanted to know if anybody here uses one of those things.

As Always,

Floog ;)

10. I use a Treo 700w
which is kind of like a blackberry that runs windows mobile.

I need it for work (email and medical programs)

I am now so used to having constant-on internet and email and a full keyboard on my phone that I could never go back to using a regular cell phone. That said, they're kind of expensive.

Is your work going to pay for it? Do they have blackberry service?

If you just want one for your own personal use, I'd look into the brand new lower cost Treo 680s. They run PalmOS, which is robust and easy to use, they don't cost nearly as much as the high end blackberries and treos.

14. Almost all docs carry PDAs nowadays
Both to plug into hospital networks (electronic recordkeeping, patient-encounter notes and so on) and for being able to carry an entire library of medical reference materials in one tiny place. There are literally thousands of medically-related programs available for PalmOS and Win Mobile.

17. Heh...not directly
In some hospitals, though, you can access patient records and see the results, but the screens aren't high enough resolution to look at things like radiology images. Generally, too, one tries to keep patients' personal health information off of the PDAs as well since they're too easy to lose.

a whole new meaning to teleradiography. But I suppose the blackberry thingy would be too small for viewing.

12. They're great for getting stuck staying up past midnight
doing a bunch of pointless work shit that really could have waited until the next morning, but because they got your fucking dick in a noose by issuing you a Blackberry, it's a lot more difficult to move off the radar.

15. Work gave me a blackberry
It's a pain, because you can never get away. But it's expected now that you have one.

20. No.
Apparently, I do not need one. I'm not a doctor and I don't have any superiors. I will keep an open mind, though, mad-mommy.

21. if we had the money...
hubby would buy one of them, because it's a gadget, and he loves gadgets. I did break him off of his pen buying habit though. How can someone be so into pens?

23. We both have Blackberrys.
I love it. It allows me to check my email while I am running errands, so I don't worry about missing something important.

For my husband, he doesn't have to lug his computer everywhere because he can check his email from his Blackberry.

24. Blackberry and I love it.
I travel quite a bit and having the Blackberry means checking and keeping up with email during the inevitable delays and waits during a trip. Also, most work emails can be handled in a couple of sentences so the Blackberry works great. It keeps me from checking into a hotel at 11pm and then trying to respond to 50 emails when I'm ready to just sleep.

Even when not traveling, I can go out to the local coffee shop with my wife for breakfast and not miss any calls or respond to a critical email without having to run back home or lug the laptop around.

Do you need one? Depends on your email/job situation/life style. If you get lots of emails and you can work remotely, then it's a lifesaver.

25. I use Blackberry and love it
You can send and receive email on it, do IM's, browse the web and even sync your calendar.

My company is in the process of switching me to a Treo however :(

26. My wife lives on it.
She travels a lot, does most of her business in email back at the office while on the move. Quite effective.
