I'm really happy tonight, but I know where you and other Tiger fans are. Trust me. I know how much it sucks.

5. Oh and give the kiddo a hug too.
I was a teenager and lived through losses 1985 and 1987. It just makes winning sweeter.

her to stop. :( Triple yuck. That was just horrid.

14. that's the best part about sports, when we believe in
the ones no one believed in. I moved to Atlanta in August of 1991, just before the height of the "worst to first" season - hell of an experience for a 22 year old, even greater for a kid. And the next year, with Sid Bream's slow ass scoring the winning run on a hit from Francisco Who?

KidGrumpy will take a lot away from this, I'll bet. Best to y'all.

16. What happened is that Magglio took the time, right before they went to NY
to sign a photograph we had taken of him and send it back to her. Her heart is really breaking for him because he gave an interview of how he cried when the White Sox won the WS without him. Sigh..It's going to be a long night.

10. All I can say is that I know exactly what that feels like.
I remember trying to do my homework while the Cards were having the Series ripped away from them in 1985. I remember two years later and the stupid Twins and their damned indoor baseball. Then I remember being the only Cardinals fan in a bar full of Red Sox "fans". The Tigers will be very good for quite a while to come, I think. They'll learn from this and win it all. It doesn't stop the hurt, but it's all I got.

11. Nope. It's not going to make up for the fact that Magglio didn't get the
ring he deserved. I think the Tigers just got unlucky. They were anybody's games to lose, and the Tigers lost them. Thanks GOP.

Nothing's going to make her feel better at this point. The only thing I can tell her is that I felt the same way when the Packers were robbed by the Cowboys in 95.

13. Ever feel like you're in a script that you don't like the ending of?
That's kind of how I felt in 2004, and I imagine that what this feels like for her. The Tigers were just so good and they just did a 180.

That is the thing about sports and its popularity: you can't rent the next game at Blockbuster.

15. But, I don't think they did a 180. I think they played really well
given the weather, except for the pitching errors. We ended up muting these games because the announcers were just horrid. I really couldn't stand the fact that the announcers made it out to be an overdog/underdog situation when it was two wild card teams. Have a great night GOP.

19. As much of a St. Louis guy as I am...I cannot stand Buck and McCarver.
Buck's dad was a classic. Joe, not so much.

The Tigers just seemed to make all the plays until the World Series. Just a few mistakes here and there.

You and the family have a good night.

I admit I didn't watch any of the World Series since the New York teams were out. Look on the bright side, your team beat my team.

Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:35 PM by Strawman
They were a much better team than what we saw in that series. That's the disappointing part. That and my unused Game 6 tickets. I was looking forward to being able to say I had went to the World Series.

Damn...

Maybe this'll help:

From A Great and Glorious Game: Baseball Writings of A. Bartlett Giamatti
by A. Bartlett Giamatti, et al
"The Green Fields of the Mind "

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped, and summer was gone.

23. I'm sorry
It's just not really baseball any more since they got rid of the pennant races and started playing all the games at night. Everyone knows that baseball belongs on the radio in the afternoon so you can listen to it on a transistor radio while working out in the garden.

24. It's baseball for my daughter, therefor it is baseball for me.
The yuck is for the fact that she sat on the floor crying. :hi:

I was angry in 95, after the strike...and then came the attempt to buy out the public with a manufactured home run race... and it worked, and I was angrier still. Then my daughter fell in starry eyed awe of a long haired RFer who winked at her in the stands...and I wasn't angry anymore.

25. In other sports news...
A friend (and former DUer who shall remain nameless) won tickets to the Packers game on Sunday...should I go? :7

I mentioned this to some co-workers today...that I could potentially go to the Packers game this weekend (barring any need to watch the WS, of course ;))...one of them said "The what? You're not from here, are you?" I was very confused.

I was then informed that to fans, it's not a "Packers" game, it's a "Packer" game. Who knew?

:D

I think they deserve it for all they have done and for the way they have been so great to the fans. I'd go.
