so, Christopher's birthparents spent the weekend with us
They called Wednesday and said they wanted to come visit - short notice, but we've given them a standing invitation in the past. They got here Friday midday and left a couple of hours ago. It was really cool. They have a lot of fun playing with him, Ms Uly's mom had us to her house for dinner last night, and Eric got to "meet" my parents this morning during their weekly webcam time with Chris.

How was everyone's weekend?

1. What you are doing with Christopher's birthparents is wonderful
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 03:29 PM by MrsGrumpy
Uly!

This is a little boy who will grow up knowing that his birth parents had his best interests at heart and how very much his parents wanted him.

Way to go!

Me? I had a headache, so I did a bit of canvassing for a local Dem candidate and then went to sleep.

2. they're talking about having another child
in the next year or so to raise themselves - I hope they do, if they're up for it. Eric said this weekend that they want that child and Chris to know each other well, too. It's not always easy on our end to be as open as we are, but we know it's best for Chris and hell, if they can trust us to be his parents, we can trust them to visit. Besides, we *like* them. :)

How's your head doing?

3. I can imagine how tough that must be at times for you...
which is one of the reasons I admire you so much. In your shoes, I would have trouble with that.

My head is much better, thanks! I tried icing it and then taking a hot shower and ended up resorting to a pain killer, which worked.

6. You and your person sound like braaaave parents.
That's...way more brave than I could be.

4. This is probably a horrible question...
but don't you worry that if they get really attached to him, they're going to want him back? I feel like I would...

7. sure.
That's the hard part. :) To their eternal credit, they go out of their way whenever we're with them to refer to us as "Mommy and Daddy" - they just go by their first names by mutual agreement.

I think it helps them to not feel too weird about it if they know they can come visit, too.

13. I think its great what you are doing!
When I was a teenager I had a child and gave him up for adoption. I have a relationship with him and his parents, he knows who I am and his parents have always told him I wanted him to have a better life then what I could give him. He's now 13 (I was 16) and even though I don't get to see him often (he lives in another state) I know that he is happy and he knows that he can talk to me whenever he wants. I don't regret my decision one bit.

12. you guys-
meaning you and Cheryl, are wonderful loving people and i think it is great that you have maintained a relationship with the birth parents. I think Chris will realize this too, just how much you have given him, once he gets a little older. well wishes.

22. Uly, that's just wonderful!
Chris is a lucky little boy to have 4 people who care for him so much that they only want what is best for him. And it is awesome that you all get along so well!

We should get the little monsters together soon. I'm sensing a radically different DU get together. :)

LOL! Are the days of wine and roses gone, replaced by formula and diapers? :D Chris, Carter and Mike and Kathy's little girl (blanking on her name now - Emily?) should make a great team!

:hi:
