KO says we have the Senate!!!
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 08:37 PM by L A Woman
Officially, according to the AP. So says Keith Olbermann....

on edit, he just said Allen's people say he will wait until at least tomorrow to concede, but the AP is calling it a Webb victory.

(as if we didn't know!) Woot!

1. He did make it clear, though, that it was the AP, not NBC, that was
calling it for Webb.

3. Then, maybe this will make you feel better...
Found the following on a blog today:

I went through the county by county totals for Virginia and there are three counties that have not fully reported, as of ~12:15 central time.

Fairfax County - 7456 votes reporded with 86% precincts reporting leaving ~1213 votes outstanding.

Isle of Wright County - 12154 votes recorded with 92% perecincts reporting leaving ~1059 votes outstanding.

Loudoun County - 75815 votes recorded with 96% precincts reporting leaving ~3158 votes outstanding.

You can see there are ~5430 votes remaining to be tallied. With Webb leading by 6708 (1169285 to 1162557)it's pretty well wrapped up, recounts and litigation notwithstanding.

The major assumption made is that is only an insignificant number of ballots that have already been totalled that did not included a for any of the Senate candidates in these three counties.

5. I've got a bottle of wine waiting to be opened
as soon as Mr GoG gets home...
I have a feeling Allen's going to demand a recount, though.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democrats wrested control of the Senate from Republicans Wednesday with an upset victory in Virginia, giving the party complete domination of Capitol Hill for the first time since 1994.

Jim Webb's squeaker win over incumbent Sen. George Allen gave Democrats their 51st seat in the Senate, an astonishing turnabout at the hands of voters unhappy with Republican scandal and unabated violence in Iraq. Allen was the sixth Republican incumbent senator defeated in Tuesday's elections.

The Senate had teetered at 50 Democrats, 49 Republicans for most of Wednesday, with Virginia hanging in the balance. Webb's victory ended Republican hopes of eking out a 50-50 split, with Vice President Dick Cheney wielding tie-breaking authority.
