I bought my 2004 World Almanac yesterday
I won't leave home without it.

How about you? Any fans of almanacs here? I have always loved them, but it has been a few years since I bought a new one.

I even enjoy the various Farmer's Almanacs out there. The weather forecasts are fun, and I like to pick up gardening tips.

No one in line at the bookstore. ;-) No Almanac-control laws on the books yet.

6. probably not
Though I live in a fairly 50-50 town ideologicaly, and not likely anyone will care. But it is fun to joke about, since the Motherland Security is such a joke itself.

in Gitmo. Haven't you heard?? Almanacs are indicative of terrists plotting eeevul. Best keep that suspicious activity to yourself and hope the neighbors don't know what you're doing.

5. Yep I almost always get one for Christmas
World Book of facts.

Funny the 2002 one actually credited Gore for making the internet available to so many. By this year it was not in there.

I read it a couple of times a day for about 10 times each time ;-)

Now go eat some brains.

10. this year's almanac features brain recipes!
Is there a more comprehensive reference book around?

Yeah, I used to get one every Xmas, and now I use money my grandmother sends to do it myself. Don't bet on sports without one!

20. Yes!
In fact, some of her church associates think so. One of them told her she can't be a christian if she doesn't support Bush, and she refuted that. Then her "friend" hung up the phone on her. She cannot stand Bush, and was floored that anyone made liking him a condition of their faith. I kid you not.

My grandmother is from Tennessee and supported Gore. She didn't trust Bush with Medicare, and we see she was right...

So yeah, support Grandmothers Against Bush! :bounce:

November will have 30 days, and once again, saying that Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving occur!

Nothing about the election. I think it's because Diebold sponsored the November outlook! :scared:

21. When I was a kid I got a new one every Christmas
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 02:30 PM by kskiska
I liked "Information Please" almanacs best – chock full of statistics. I'm considering buying a new one and filling it with indecipherable notations on every page (maybe in a weird looking shorthand), carrying it with me very conspicuously everywhere I go, even keeping an extra one visible in my car.

I have all three editions of the People's Almanac, too. It's full of wonderful facts, even though some are dated now.

22. I like both of those
I quit buying Information Please, because Time Magazine now puts their name on it in big letters, and now it feels tainted. I guess they always owned them, but I miss the old IP Almanacs.

I remember the People's Almanac in the late 70's! I used to pore over it cover to cover.

24. The People's Almanac
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 02:58 PM by kskiska
is a great bathroom book.

I particularly remember the section on spontaneous combustion where there are instances of humans who inexplicably caught on fire. The section on people who've disappeared is fascinating, too. I wish David Wallechinsky would do a new update.

BTW, I just googled it and Amazon has some used ones for around $5.50.

I have World Almanacs from 1996, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004. I also have TIME/Information Please Almanacs from 2001 and 2002.

The World Almanac is better, IMO.
