I quit cold turkey, and haven't wanted one for years.

I have no desire to ever smoke again, but I totally understand being addicted to the golden weed. It's a hard mistress to leave.

people love making excuses, and have a defeatist attitude.

A good recipe for success is

1) Drink mucho water
2) Use Commit lozenges
3) Visit an on-line support group like http://www.stopsmokingcenter.net/

Just do it. It is not that difficult!

13. Exercise helped me big time...........
I lived next to a high school with a nice track. I got up and walked around it. Many laps. Went home and when I got a craving... I went back to the track. Tried to run some but couldn't run more than a few hundred yards... so I walked.

About a year later I ran my 1st marathon. That was about 14 years ago.

7. Congratulations! I'm sure your body appreciates it as well.
I smoked for a few years, but gave it up when I noticed the air conditioning vents in my apartment were dirty looking. I sprayed some Windex on them, and the stuff that started running off was just disgusting.

Then I realized that was also inside me. I quit right then and there, and have never regretted it.

I have a few friends who still smoke, and when they start coughing and wheezing, or can't make it up stairs without gasping for breath, I realize I did the right thing. And as soon as they quit coughing, they're sucking on another cigarette!

If people want to smoke, that's their business. But they do not have the right to blow their smoke on me, make me walk through it, step on their discarded cigarette butts, or cough on me. Do it if you must, but do not bother others while doing it, or subject them to your leftovers.

9. I quit 5 years ago, cold turkey.
Not one single toke since then, but I still want one whenever I stop and think about it.

I smoked for over 40 years. I am always amazed when people tell me they are 'trying' to quit. You either quit or you don't. 'Trying' is a built in excuse for just one more. To quit, you must accept that you can never have another one.

And yes, it is harder than you could believe if you never did it.
