13. I really never thought about it.....
Given the 37 years since 1969, I like to think I would have gone to Canada, but I really don't know. At the time, I also had the college deferment thing going.

About that time, I was dating a guy who got drafted and spent his entire Army career at Fort Leonard Wood. His father made industrial films (not porn) and Rich had some experience in the industry and in theater, so they put him into special services putting on shows and making documentaries. He was luckier than many, including those eejits I know who enlisted.

14. Sept. 14 was me - finally, I was #1 at something.
I remember them breaking in on TV to announce it, and I nearly fainted. How it worked was unclear that first year, and I was 18 and staring into doom. Thank God I learned (quickly) that you were assigned your number the year you turned 19, and Sept. 14 was 247 in 1970. You can look it up. Anyone from that era doesn't need to look up their lottery number. It's permanently seared in their memory.

NORTHWEST

Calgary 32 17 12 3 94 78 37

Edmonton 33 17 14 2 93 90 36

Minnesota 33 17 14 2 94 90 36

Colorado 34 17 15 2 111 97 36

Vancouver 34 17 16 1 78 90 35

I just noticed, that's a mighty tight division. But we're #1!

20. That's actually out of 366. I know this because...
...my dad did a little trick, having been born on June 8th. He said there was a certain amount of time people had to be vulnerable for the draft, and it would get moved after your student deferment if you took one. So he had them drop his student deferment even though he was in college so he could serve that period of time when he was 366th in line for the draft rather than risking getting a lower number after his deferment. When he did that, the people he had to talk to about it couldn't figure out why anyone would want to drop their student deferment.
