1. Sad, I Like His Wife
Never quite sure where he stood on things.

He was Nixon's man. But it's sad to see another President die. And it is the end of an era in a way. Now there is only Carter, Bush1, Clinton, and Bush2 alive.

Ford was at least reasonable as a Republican.

His wife did a lot for recognition of addictions as treatable illnesses.

3. Ford was a better President than Reagan
but I bet he won't get a month-long funeral orgy like Ronnie got.

6. Thanks
I hadn't heard the news. Sad. People were far too harsh on the man, if you ask me.

10. My Favorite Thing About Him That I Remember
is Chevy Chase making fun of him tripping.

He was not a perfect man. His wife is a wonderful woman in my opinion.

People were probably too hard on him!

Hey KC2! You doin' all right?

12. i remember it well
Even though I was relatively young, when he was President, I thought it was cruel to show his falls over and over and over.

I'm fine, BTW. And, you?

13. It Was Kind Of Cruel
it kind of made Chevy's career as the king of pratfalls, he had someone to make fun of.

I'm doing all right KC2. It's frickin' cold here in Arkansas again tonight. How's things where you are at?

33. My favorite thing ...

...is that Ford *laughed* at that and took it in stride.

Contrast and compare: Bush being in effect roasted by Colbert.

8. May he rest in peace.
Never wavered in his view that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin of Kennedy.
Could have been a pro sports player, but decided to go into politics instead.

survived 2 assassination attempts.

RIP Mr Ford.
a decent man.

Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 12:53 AM by MichiganVote
Fountain St. to the museum, if you care to. Don't even think of driving in downtown the day the diplomats etc. arrive. Coming late at night should be ok but the Secret Service may have some areas shut down so pay attention to road reports. Plus this is Michigan, if anything can go wrong with the roads, it will happen. Good luck!

The local news says there will be a public viewing at the Ford Museum, followed by a funeral at a church in his hometown of East Grand Rapids. He will themn be buried at the museum.

26. As an "outsider" I will be interested in observing
loved or hated...he was a president and that alone makes the funeral a big deal.

my in-laws primarily viewed him as a hawk...and for that they didn't like him but the didn't hate him either.

32. I live in Kentwood too.
Yes it's going to be a traffic nightmare when his services are here. It's too bad that I won't be able to get down to the viewing when they have it.

All I know is that my granddad is meeting him right now on the other side. It's a long story but when Ford was a rep here in my state, he worked with my granddad, a deaf activist for the equal rights for the deaf of course, and helped pass the Handicap Act here in Michigan.

I have mentioned this on a couple of other threads as well. I am both sad and happy about Ford's death. Sad that we lost a good, and decent man and happy that he is with Durry (my granddad)

God, now I miss my grandpa.

Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 12:46 AM by slj0101
That is, back when "conservative" actually meant conservative. Yeah, he pardoned Nixon, but he also fostered an end to America's involvent in Vietnam, for better or worse. And as a First Lady, Betty Ford did more in the name of substance abuse treatment than Nancy Reagan could have ever hoped to do. He was an affable guy, and I hope he rests in peace.
