2. Funny I just came across an article on Angelina's response to this ....
"I've never been inside a Wal-Mart in my life," she sniffed. "I don't believe in supporting companies that depress wages artificially, exploit women, and drive out local competition. If that woman had painted me in a more representative setting—an orphanage in Calcutta or a workers' co-op in Costa Rica—I wouldn't have minded, but Wal-Mart? Give me a break."

5. Yeah, applaud the fact that she completely missed the painting's point: Celebrity worship...
The article this picture goes to, and the title is "Blessed Art Thou" not "Twelve Items Or Less" which is a pretty cheap shot of a title by those who don't get it :eyes:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070105/ap_on_re_us/people_angelina_s_painting_1

*snip*

The painting -- acrylic and oil on linen -- depicts an angelic Jolie in the clouds, holding her newborn daughter, Shiloh, with children Maddox and Zahara at her legs. Below them is a Wal-Mart checkout line. The painting is for sale for $50,000 through Chelsea Galleria in Miami, which represents Kretz.

On her blog, Kretz, 43, said the painting addresses "the celebrity worship cycle." She said she chose Jolie for the subject "because of her unavoidable presence in the media, the worldwide anticipation of her child, her 'unattainable' beauty and the good that she is doing in the world through her example, which adds another layer to the already complicated questions surrounding her status."

11. Hey i can applaud her reaction to Wal-Mart if I want to.
I happen to agree with her general assessment of Wall-Marts exploitations. Is that 'point' lost to you? $50,000.00 .. give me a break, is that not taking advantage of Angelina's fame for this own Artists benefit? Exploitation? Whatever, Angelina and Brad Pitt are doing more good in this world so if ya wanna get a bit picky on her reaction to this .... again whatever. Peace. :eyes:

15. I think it's a valid piece of art and a comment on our society.
I don't think it should be destroyed. I want people to dig it up in 50,000 years and say WTF?!

17. As I said...
If I were Angelina...

If it were my face in that painting, I would NOT want someone to dig it up in 50,000 years and say WTF. Hell, paint Brittney Spears on there w/her rugrats, then it might make a little more sense.

I would not want any part of my person associated w/wally world.

the walmartians are completely ignoring angelina. where's the adoration of the sheeple? NOT THERE.
the painting FAILS.

than in Africa or elsewhere in the world. She seems to be at every counter....

19. What's the significance of a register 31?

Why did the artist pick 31? AJ's age? Three to one? Four above and four below?
The end of something, as in a month? Pagan-worship/Halloween?
What does 31 represent?

Mother Wal Mart, let us feast upon your bountiful teats.

Also, the flag hangs on the right.

Yeah, its a comment on celebrity worship, among other things, possibly.

But why 31?

20. An obvious commentary on Herbert Hoover
the 31st President of the United States. As a Republican he supported the modernization of US economics. Ultimately, that economic model has brought us commodities such as Walmart, and the Walmartization of such products as tabloids and those that inhabit them.
