Would you be pissed if this happened to you?
The company I work for has season tickets (luxury box) to a local sports team. One of the perks for season ticketholders is first crack at luxury box tickets other events at the venue. About two months ago, we received a fax notifying us of a certain event coming to town that my gal and I really wanted to see. Normally, no one takes advantage of this perk - the fax typically ends up in the trash.

I brought the fax to one of my bosses and asked if I could buy two tickets through this program. He happily agreed, and then when he saw what the act was, he mentioned that he'd also like to go, and that he would get the maximum amount of tickets (12). We agreed to settle up when the tickets arrived.

This morning I got an email from my boss. Apparently, there were a lot of luxury box orders for this event and they could only provide 8 tickets rather than 12. Well, I guess he's got 7 other people who want to go, because he told me I'm out of luck and to try ticketmaster!

I wasn't asking for free tickets. I wasn't asking for all of the tickets. He wouldn't have even known about the event if I hadn't told him. I just feel like that was some low class bullshit that neither my gf or I deserve (she also works for this company, and this boss especially relies on her).

What do you think, DU?

15. Unfortunately, nice people tend to give others the benefit of the doubt
and then get screwed when assholes do what assholes always do.

2. That would totally piss me off.
Especially since it was you who brought the act to his attention. That is just so wrong. I'm sorry you got shafted.

5. He's an asshole
He should have told the last two people he asked that he wasn't able to get enough tickets and given those two tickets to you.

17. They're completely sold out now.
He says he's going to try with the guy who sold us the season tickets, but I'm not sure I'd even go at this point. I'm a spiteful, vicious person when I want to be.

8. Heh.
Believe it or not, it's a sweet job that I'm lucky to have. I'm pissed, but I'm not THAT pissed. They take good care of me in other ways.

But this was like a personal favor.

9. If you ever hear about him throwing a big fancy party
say you have some cousin who's a top-rated caterer, make up some fake menus and prices that are "almost" too good to be true. Get the order, and when it's time to deliver just show up with 56 Happy Meals and say she got sick.

Sorry!

14. Well, I do have an opportunity for petty revenge
I expressed my displeasure about the situation to him and he said he'd make some calls to our rep to see if he could swing two more tickets.

Should I haunt him about it until he gets two tickets, and then when he wants the $$ tell him I can't make it?

13. What an ass! Something similar did happen to me. My husband's brother works for
for a major cell phone manufacturer and they have a whole bunch of good tickets for various sporting events around Chicago. I think the idea is to take clients to the events, but the employees get the tickets if nobody needs them or there are extras. The employees are then free to do whatever they wish with the tickets (use them, give them away, etc.).

One day my b-i-l gave my husband three tickets to a Cubs game, really good seats, that he had received from his boss and couldn't use. We both took the day off and we asked my brother to join us. My brother was so excited because he's a big Cubs fan but rarely gets to attend games. His wife and kids aren't big into sports and he's always pretty low on extra cash.

Then, the afternoon before the game, we get a call from my b-i-l saying that his boss wants the tickets back because he feels like going to the game. I actually had to FedEx him the tickets! His boss GAVE him the tickets and then demanded them back less than 24 hours before the game. How shitty is that?! And it wasn't for a client either, he just decided he felt like going. You don't demand something back that you gave away. They weren't on loan, they were a gift. That's just classless IMHO. Even if he did change his mind and decide to go, a guy with as much money as he has could afford to buy a couple of premium tickets no problem. It's not like it was a playoff game or anything. Can you imagine being that much of an asshole that would would give your subordinate tickets, then decide you want them back, then even after he tells you that he gave them to his brother STILL demand that they be FedExed back to you? I suppose I should be glad that at least the jerk paid the FedEx charges. :eyes:

I was so embarrassed having to call my brother and tell him the news. He of course was very gracious about it but I knew he was really disappointed.

Anyway, testify, that really was classless bullshit you were subject to from your boss. The longer I work in a corporate environment, the more it becomes apparent to me that the classy, responsible, kind, gracious, generous, honest, hard-working people ARE NOT the people being promoted by and large.

16. Ugh.
That's even worse. I would have told him to meet me at the gate and I'd give him the tickets, then not shown up.

As for the right people not getting the promotions, I have two words for ya: Owner's son.

18. I thought of that, and a million other things I could do (including sending
something very nasty in that FedEx envelope). I even thought about sending an emply FedEx envelope with a slit cut in the side so he'd think they got stolen, but that wouldn't be fair to the poor FedEx employee who got blamed. Ultimately I was a little bit ticked at my b-i-l for not saying "I'm sorry sir, I gave those tickets away and can't get them back," but not mad enough that I wanted to get him in trouble. Because I'm sure if I had exacted any kind of revenge the ass would've taken it out on my b-i-l.

As for your other comment, yes nepotism sure is fun isn't it?
