Cat Recovering After Arrow Removed From Her Head
<snip>

HUDSON, Fla. -- Snowball the cat is recovering after veterinarians removed an arrow lodged in her head.

Amanda Pugh told deputies her daughter found the cat Sunday with a 10-inch arrow shaft protruding from the chin. The arrow had entered somewhere between the neck and the top of the head.

"There's no way this was an accident," Pugh told the St. Petersburg Times.

Pugh couldn't afford emergency surgery, so she released the cat to Pasco County Animal Services, who paid a veterinarian to remove the arrow. The cat is doing well.

"You wouldn't really know there was any injury," shelter supervisor Kevin Mallory said. He said Snowball will be put up for adoption. Pugh said she will try to get the cat back.

2. Probably saw Steve Martin's cat do it on TV so the stupid thing

thought it was real.

This is precisely why I have been fighting to get cat tricks off of TV - too many cats injuring themselves emulating what they see on TV.

:grr:

8. A kid in my neighborhood shot my cat back in the 90s
Cat nearly died. Cost me $500 in vet bills that I couldn't afford and then before I finished paying off the vet $100/wk the cat got run over by a car. x(

10. I'm very sorry.
I'd be devastated by that.

Only my first two cats were indoor/outdoor cats. Since then, I've learned to keep all my cats indoors.

11. I hate to keep them inside. They seem to enjoy their time outside so much.
That's a topic that could probably start a flame war however. :P

4. That's one lucky cat
brings back the memory from high school track where a kid at a track meet I was at got impaled by a javalin. He didn't live, though. Went in just above the shoulder blades, through the heart and out the front.

Borrowed your avatar for my sig line (just couldn't part with the red stapler).

6. I don't think she should get the kitty back.
1. She gave up custody so somebody else could pay for the surgery (understandable if you can't afford it, but there are consequences to doing that).

2. She let her cat roam outside; snowball wouldn't have had the arrow through her head if she'd been indoors. And that is yet one more tragic illustration of why you should keep your cats INSIDE.

9. In most cases I agree
But there are some cats who would just be miserable inside.

I recently lost my best friend Jack, my mini-panther. Jack was a former-feral cat before I adopted him and although he adores people he was miserable when kept inside. We are pretty sure a Coyote got him and though I miss him terribly, I would rather he have gone that way, out in the wild where he was happy. I am content to know he lived life happily on his own terms and chose us to love and call his family.

I have adopted 2 more kittens since his death, both are more then happy to stay inside (they don't know any different). The coyote pack is still roaming the area.
