women do speak a different language
It even extends to the clothes.

Size 8, size 14. Men have no clue.

36c or 38b. Men have no clue.

Women know everything about men, but woman are still the "Mysterians" of the planet.

I like it that way. You?

1. Nah, I know what it means...
and I know what size my wife wears, and what sizes for particular brands too. My wife loves clothes, and I have had to learn what size is what, and how certain brands have different cuts, etc, etc....

My main difficulty is...if a women is a size 8...what is the mans equivalent?

3. A size 8 has no male equivalent
unless one wants to get smacked repeatedly about the head and shoulders (not to mention other possible areas!)

4. well, there has to be...
my wife is between an 16-22 depending on who makes the pants....there is an equivelant. She can fit into my size 46 jeans easily, so I'm assuming her waist size in mens terms, is between a 38-42....

18. Size 8 would roughly correspond to a 24-26" waist.

21. I never thought I'd ever say this, but: I disagree, KitchenWitch.
I have a 25-inch waist and I wear some 0s, some 1s, and some 2s.

28. My mother told me that in her day, an 8 was virtually unheard of.
Size 10 was tiny, and size 12 was considered "ideal."

Vanity sizing has changed all that. I do remember when a size 6 was about a 24 inch waist.

29. I am now a now size 12 in pants (up top I am a 16 - because of my cup size)
But I have been as large as a 20.

But back when I was in an 8, it was right around 25" (yes, I know, 20 years ago)

she'll ask him if he thinks she looks better in the mauve, the lilac or the heliotrope dress.

17. Yes. But,
women don't know anything more about men than men know about woman. Women are just better at the selling part of relationships which is getting to know the customer and convincing them that you have their best interest in mind.

23. But I think the difference is that we all (men and women) have accepted and
internalized the idea that women are mysterious and men are simple. So, even though men probably have as much psychological complexity as women, we've all been socialized to deny it.

On the other hand, it seems that women in general (nature? nurture?) are more attentive to other peoples feeling, needs, reactions, etc. In my own limited experience, I find that my wife actively pays attention to what's going on with other people, while I (unless that other person is about to buy me a beer) couldn't give a rat's ass about what's going on in there...

26. um, if it's any consolation, women don't have a clue, either
I have no idea what size I am, either, and I'm pretty much average....

You should see how small the teen girl sizes are... it's scary. I saw a size 17 that didn't even look like an "old" size 10. :scared:
