I like mayonnaise
hopefully i can proclaim my preference without some motivated poster throwing in a disgusting reference, or a cholesterol rant. sure would be nice.

anyhoo, it makes potato salad so good, tuna salad, even kipper snacks & sardines. what would an italian sub be without it? then there's a plain old lettuce & tomato & onion thing with mayo & vinegar. hellmann's, kraft...it's all delicious.

www.mayo.com takes you to hellmann's

www.mayonnaise.com takes you to kraft

www.world-of-mayo.com "the best reason to own a mouth"

www.mayonnaisesf.com apparently a band in san francisco...

2. Only Hellman's or homemade.
And to the healthy eating crowd: anything is OK in moderation.

I think Hellman's is called something else depending on where you live in the USA...

salad dressing?

I've never been able to tell the difference.

:P

I can tell by the texture which is which. Miracle Whip is a lot smoother than real mayo.

9. What's the big deal with cholesterol and mayo?
People talk about how much cholesterol is in mayo. Most of it is vegetable oil (no cholesterol). There are probably three egg yolks in a pint of the stuff. You'd have to eat a whole pint of mayo to get any significant cholesterol.

Mayo's high-calorie, for sure, but not bad on cholesterol.

(Best food in the world is home grown tomatoes and mayo.)

12. Nectar of the Gods
OK, maybe a little overboard. But dang, I like it. :)

I remember my first trip to the Netherlands when someone asked me if I wanted "friitsaus" (not sure on the spelling) to go with my french fries. I said yes. To my delight, it was basically mayo!

Now, french fries without friitsaus is like... nothing. It just doesn't taste like... freedom. :silly:

Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 12:46 PM by Kellanved
The stuff that one gets elsewhere is simply not in the same league (although the "Holland" fast food locations run by Dutch are pretty close) . Hmm fresh (not from frozen potatoes, but fresh potatoes peeled and sliced in the fast food place) Fritten speciaal...

17. fry sauce
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 12:51 PM by enough
My daughter's boyfriend from Idaho introduced us to "fry sauce" which goes on anything you would use ketchup on. Half ketchup, half mayo. Yum. Real American haute cuisine.

Mayo (Hellman's) makes life worth living if you're on a low-carb diet.

Theres nothing better than a fat, dripping tomato sandwich with mayonnaise and a thin slice of vidalia onion. The tomato can never be refrigerated though. Fridgidated tomatoes s**k.

24. There's a controversy over whether it really does hurt your cholesterol
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 01:21 PM by populistmom
I've been doing Atkins for almost a year and have eaten more mayo than I ever had before (although I do try to stick with monounsaturated fats like olive oil more) and my cholesterol went from 275 to 185.

Some recents studies point to a high sugar diet as the culprit. I don't know yet. Perhaps it's an idividual thing also.

and my husband's (which was over 300!). I really think sugar is the culprit, and white flour.

33. I do too. I want it on sandwiches at work
There is a vending machine at work where I usually get lunch. they have free packets of ketchup and mustard. I really want mayonaise though, especially on cold meat sandwiches. I know that I could always bring my own, but I don't understand why they cannot have that popular condiment too.
