4. Don't know, just won't work anymore and when I plug it in

the computer no longer recognizes it. It's completely dead.

5. Have you tried manually resetting it?

Mine locked up on me a couple of days ago--you hold in the top scroll button and the center select button at the same time, and in a few seconds it should display the apple logo (you might even have to try it a few times to get it to do that). Once it displays the logo, you should be able to hook it up and re-sync/restore.

7. You're welcome!! Completely freaked me out when it happened to me.

I wanted to cry; I thought I'd killed my beloved iPod.

I must give credit where due, though--I bought the iPod "Missing Manual" book on Amazon, and it's been worth its weight in....not gold, but maybe in free downloads. :7

It tells you how to do things you didn't even know you could do with an iPod (and with iTunes). I grabbed it as soon as I walked in the door yesterday to see if it had a fix for un-freezing an iPod--thank goodness it did. It's around $15.
