They have the results of the autopsy, but they are not releasing them pending a police investigation, apparently of Howard K. Stern and his activities both before and on the day of her death.

Boy, this topic dropped like a stone underneath all the week's developments.

Exactly one month after Anna Nicole Smith collapsed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida and later died at a nearby hospital, the cause of Anna Nicole Smith's death is finally known. However, in another twist to the already bizarre story, the cased of death will not be announced for another one to two weeks in order to give police investigators time to complete their investigation of Smith's dead, according to the medical examiner in charge of Anna Nicole's autopsy.


The office of Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perper announced on Wednesday that he had indeed determined what killed Anna Nicole Smith, but has said that he wants to make sure none of the investigators' findings can change any of his own results. Dr. Perper, the man who performed the autopsy on Anna Nicole Smith, also wants to make sure his results won't taint the investigation into the death of the former Playboy Playmate, and has said he will hold the results as long as he has to.


Joshua Perper was one of the key proponents of having the courts allow the body of Anna Nicole Smith to be embalmed while various parties, including Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, and Anna Nicole's lover, Howard K. Stern, fought a legal battle over where the buxom blonde would be buried. Perper advocated that the rapid decomposition of the body might make the legal battle a moot point, as the decomposing body was rapidly becoming unsuitable for viewing. Ever after embalming the body, Dr. Perper warned that decomposition had not abated, and that the legal process needed to be expedited.


Last Wednesday, Dr. Perper issued a death certificate for Anna Nicole Smith, though the document listed the cause of death as pending, as he was still waiting for test results at the time. However, there has been no shortage of speculation about what killed Anna Nicole Smith. Rumors of pneumonia, lupus, drug use, methadone intake and a host of other theories have been proffered, though no confirmation has been reached about any of them. Entertainment Tonight discussed the case with pathologist Cyril Wecht, the private doctor hired by Anna Nicole Smith to perform an autopsy on Daniel Smith, Anna Nicole's 20-year-old son who died suddenly just three days after Anna give birth to her daughter, Dannielynn.

It's funny that all of these academics did business during the day, but at night in the hotel's bar, the most common topic conversation topic was Anna Nicole.

So we won't find out what killed her until we find out if Stern was somehow involved? Dang, I was kinda anticipating finding out tomorrow.

I have no doubt that Stern was involved, and I really hope investigators can get to the bottom of it.

Since the reality show aired. He was always a presence, wayyy too involved in her life. Very controlling of her, and of who did and did not have access to her.

I think he killed her son, too, and I think he had some involvement in her death. It's sad to think that he's caring for a baby right now.

I hope they get that baby away from him SOON. There's an interesting (if a bit hysterical) site called http://www.ishowardksternamurderer.com that details a lot of the stuff you and I are hinting at--control through drugs, exploitation, etc. Birkhead has said publicly (going back to when her pregnancy was first revealed) that Stern broke them up and interfered any time he tried to contact her.

Ever since I saw him with her on that reality show--where she was OBVIOUSLY drugged out of her mind--I've thought he was pure evil. Still think so.

-- or perhaps replied in the forum -- about the September death of Daniel Smith.

The person said that he/she (??) was familiar with Anna's family and even may have known of her. He was very worried about her getting mixed up with Howard K. Stern. I wish I remembered more of the details or the DUer's name. I'll try to look for it.

I'm just feeling badly that an obviously Jewish man -- my original religion -- with some parents somewhere who must have given him some of our values -- looks as if he may have been involved in causing another human being to perish due to his -- what? Stupidity? Duplicity? Conniving? Wheedling? Downright criminal activities?

I felt that same way about the rabbi who killed his wife -- a prominent case a while ago in another state.

6. If Stern gave her drugs, but she didn't die of a drug overdose, would he be held criminally liable?

15. If the drugs illegal and were a substantial factor in contributing to her death, then maybe.

For instance, if he gave her an illegal drug that interacted with a prescription she was taking, I think his actions would be considered a proximate cause of the death and he'd be liable.

If they were not a substantial factor in contributing to her death, then I doubt it -- he could be held liable for drug distribution (as he could if she had not died), but not for the death.

If the drugs were legal, over-the-counter -- say, sleeping pills -- unless he coerced her, tricked her or gave them to her without her knowledge or consent, I'd imagine he'd be off the hook. (In other words, if he happened to buy a regular drug and she happened to voluntarily and knowingly take it, then no, he's not responsible.)

Laws vary by jurisdiction, though -- not sure what the Bahamas would say.
