Back from 3 fun days in Hollywood
My nephew moved out about 8 months ago and my sister came from Vermont for a visit so I drove down to hang out with them.

I only stayed 2 nights so could only do a few things - we went to Griffith Observatory which was fun (the weather was great so the view was really pretty). We also hit the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach and we wandered around along the Venice canals which I had no idea even existed (apparently the original developer thought it would be cool to model it after Venice - the era of the car kind of put an end to that but there are 6 canals left with little paths along them and people have their own little docks). They're so pretty! Man, I'd love to have a house along one of them - live on a canal about a block from the beach - what could be better than that?

We ate some good food and drank far too many drinks and had a splendid time.

These are some of the houses along the canals -

4. You're welcome!
Griffith was great - as you can tell from my username, I love the night sky. And the views from up there are gorgeous.

2. I didn't know they had canals, either!
Those houses are positively charming!

3. Aren't they?
That was my favorite part. I live further north in the San Jose area which I love. One of the things I love about California is the architecture - the mix of Spanish and Mediterranean along with a hodgepodge of other styles, somehow all blending attractively. But those houses along the canals were so nice with their little gardens and gates and docks and pretty greenery. Loved it!

5. Hooray for Hollywood!

That screwy, ballyhooey Hollywood
Where any office boy or young mechanic
Can be a panic, with just a goodlooking pan
Where any barmaid can be a star maid
If she dances with or without a fan

Hooray for Hollywood
Where you're terrific, if you're even good
Where anyone at all from TV's Lassie
To Monroe's chassis is equally understood
Go out and try your luck, you might be Donald Duck
Hooray for Hollywood

Hooray for Hollywood
That phoney, super coney Hollywood
They come from Chillicothes and Padukahs
With their bazookas to get their names up in lights
All armed with photos from local rotos
With their hair in ribbons and legs in tights

Hooray for Hollywood
You may be homely in your neighborhood
But if you think that you can an actor
See Mr. Factor, he'd make a monkey look good
With a half an hour, you'll look like Tyrone Power
Hooray for Hollywood
