Forgotten and/or unappreciated rock'n'roll thread
lately i have been listening to a lot of the following:

The Pretty Things
The Gun Club
Exploding Hearts
Link Wray

and many more that would make this list a million miles long...

what do you like that doesn't get the attention...credit...acknowledgment that it deserves?

21. Hi Drum, I agree that Kansas is an underappreciated, if not forgotten, band
Even if some of their music is played on classic rock stations, I don't think it represents the depth and breadth of their talent. I feel the same way about Stevie Wonder. IMO, some of his best stuff has never been played by Top 40 hit-oriented stations.

31. I agree
The album cover that you posted is that of my favorite Kansas album, their debut. I was listening to it in my car just a few days ago. It ranges from some of their catchiest stuff (though none were hit singles) including "Can I Tell You", "Bringing It Back", and "Lonely Wind" to some of their most complex "proggy" stuff, like "Journey from Mariabronn" and "Apercu."

Plus, I would disagree that they get overplayed on classic rock stations. Most classic rock stations just beat "Carry on Wayward Son" into the ground, and will occasionally toss in "Dust in the Wind" or "Point of Know Return"; so it's hardly like the bulk of their music, or even a small percentage of it, is familiar to most.

3. The Del Fuegos / Drivin 'n' Cryin
Those are the first two bands that spring to mind.

The Del Fuegos debut album was a masterpiece, a near perfect rock record. Their second wasn't quite as good. Then they lost all their indie credibility by appearing on camera in an ad for Miller Beer, a brand with no hipster cache, despite the fact that the ad was pretty good and that rock and roll was originally music of the common people.

DNC was just another one of those perfect bands, whose peak was when I was in my early 20s and paying the most amount of attention to rock and roll.

5. SRV's bro was in the Fabulous Thunderbirds
I think there's an anthology of DNC's work still in print. Back in 1989 or so they put on some of the best live shows I've ever seen.

Power fucking house

One of the best rock lyrics ever. (Maybe you had to be there)

20. Get "Whisper Tames The Lion" first
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 03:10 AM by enigmatic
then "Mystery Road" if you can find it.

I saw them about a dozen times from 1988-90 when I lived in Athens, and they were phenomenal live. "Whisper Tames The Lion" is equal parts ferocious hard rock/punk and cry in your beer old school country "Mystery Road is more conventional and dressed w/ strings on many cuts, but the songs are still great.

Kevn Kinney has done alot of folk music (not unlike Peter Case, another unappreciated talent)in the last decade; he's got a new band now:

17. Great choices from folks...amazing how many of these bands I've
actually seen. Thanks for the memories. Maybe we are all from the the same era or something....

As for my pick, anyone recall that band Translator? Great, melodic guitar pop from early 80s....
