Edited on Tue Jan-13-04 07:15 PM by GTRMAN

Once again,Ford and Carroll Shelby team up to build an ass-kicking ride. The new Shelby Cobra. They have the prototype, now all they have to do is get it into production.:)

4. Speaking as a Shelby fan:
The rear end is aesthetically boring as hell. The front end is moderately attractive but hardly exciting in concept. It's probably an ass-kicker under the hood, though.

5. I agree about the rear end

I would like to see it in some different colors too, like a deep metallic blue with white stripes.

Ass kicker under the hood is right. It has a 605hp 4-cam aluminum V-10. The engineers on the show I saw about it the other night are predicting 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 270 mph. :)

6. Do they also sell you
a race track? 605 bhp, 3.7 zero-60, 270 top speed?

I went 160 on an interstate twice back in 1970, once in a DeThomaso Mangusta (sp?), once in a '67 Ford Shelby. Scared the piss out of me both times.

What's the fastest any DUer's ever gone?

8. 210KM/h (130.5MPH) in my XK8, on a track.
in Mission, BC.

That was when I was livin' the high life. I doubt I could pull that speed off in my current ride, a '92 4Runner 4-cyl.

BTW, Don't expect this to be Shelby's swan-song. Although he's nearing retirement, he has already stated that he's like to design a new Mustang GT 500 based on the new '05 Mustang platform. Probably a 6-speed big aluminium block.

9. I hope he gets to stick around to do it

He's 81 with a transplanted heart and kidneys.

I am thinking this new V-10 will wind up in the 500. The show I saw was on the Learning Channel,I think it is called "Rides". Anyway, they were going through the development of the new Cobra and were showing a late model Mustang they were using as a "Mule" to test the engine. It was doing some really wicked burnouts!

I found the displacement of the new engine interesting. 6.4 liters=390 cubic inches. The new 390!
