2. the Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" was used?
I love that song! Kinda cool, really.

What always gets me is inappropriate use in commercials, like "Fortunate Son" for selling crappy Tommy "they have a flag but are made in sweatshops" Hilfiger, or "Lust For Life" to sell cruises.

hm.

3. yeah, it's used at the end of the episode
when bartlet must decide whether to run again or not. Gives it a very haunting quality.

8. Me too!
I thought Scorsese's use of Layla in that part of the movie was inspired. I loved it.

5. Que Sera Sera in Heathers
I never thought much at all about that song and was totally indifferent towards it until hearing the brilliant versions by Syd Straw and Sly and the Family Stone in the movie.

6. "Reflections" -- The Supremes
The theme song for "China Beach." It always makes me think of war and senseless death now.

7. 'Satisfaction'
Makes me want to go water skiing on the Mekong Delta.

And you know the bit with Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

9. "Little Boxes" used as the theme song for "Weeds"
I can remember the song on the radio when I was little; I later learned it was about Levittown. Then to see it as the theme song for a show about regular folks in one of those neighborhoods who sell pot for a living. I love it! And it's cool how they invite different artists to perform the song their own way every week. :-)

14. "Alone at last"

"Look, I'm not gonna bullshit you, okay? I don't really give a good fuck what you know or don't know... but I'm gonna torture you anyway... regardless. Not to get information. It's amusing to me to torture a cop. You can say anything you want because I've heard it all before. All you can do is pray for a quick death which you ain't gonna get."

Notice that we never actually see the ear being cut off as the camera slowly drifts off to left until we are looking at a wall.

Brutal scene but a great film.
