If you were going to die this afternoon, what did you say today to ironically foreshadow it?

"Why, just yesterday Bucky was saying he could've died from embarrassment when he fell asleep in the staff meeting. And then last night he was hit by a bus and killed! How ironic is that?"

Um, not very. But every now and then we just say random stuff that no one will remember unless you happen to ironically predict your own demise. Like saying you love shark steaks, and then the next week getting eaten by a shark; or playing "Heartbreak Hotel" on a juke box the night before you go into cardiac arrest.

Have you said anything today that could trigger a random Rube Goldberg chain of karma that would ultimately doom your own life? Share, share!!

2. Years ago, one very hot summer day

BF and I were driving up to the Kaweah River to go swimming just down the road from the Kings Canyon National Park.

Excitedly, I said to him, "When we get up there am just going to drown myself!"

We waded into a shallow and calm culvert area of the river, and planned to go no farther in as it was June snow melt, and the river was running pretty fast.

I dunked my head under to cool off, and suddenly was caught in an undercurrent and dragged upstream toward a deep whirlpool.

BF ran fast as I moved swiftly upriver. Right before the whirlpool was a large boulder. I saw three possible handholds. I missed the first two, grabbed onto the third one. Just as my fingers slipped off, BF grabbed my hand and literally pulled me up to standing on top of the boulder.

I started laughing. He asked if I was hysterical. I kept laughing and said, "No! I am just so fucking happy!" Now, where's the Bota Bag of wine?"

Was pretty shaky for a while after that, and to this day, am uncomfortable in deep or moving water.

Be careful what you wish for...

Had a few close calls, but made it OK. Retired in '99.
And now this:

1. A satellite goes out of orbit and wipes out his neighborhood.
or
2. Fill in the blank (----------------).
