Popular Songs with Subtle (or Overt) Anti-Bush/RW Lyrics
Know any you'd care to share?

To start, two anti-Bush songs by Nine Inch Nails.

1. The Hand That Feeds from the album With Teeth. Awesome song. Very cathartic to play full blast and sing along at the top of your lungs.

2. Capital G, from their new album, Year Zero. Love the lyrics, some of which sound to me to be sung in a sort of GWB impersonation:

I pushed the button and elected him to office
He pushed the button and he dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch it on the television
Those motherfuckers didn't last too long

I'm sick of hearing about the have and have not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we are doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me

Well I use to stand for something
Well I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in (?) the god of this war
and he signs his name with a capital G

Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry about no future generations
And I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out

Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You hadn't had enough to know what its like
Your only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head cause you know that I'm right..alright!

(repeat chorus)

6. James McMurtry - "Can't Make it Here"
It's probably not really popular, but it's very powerful.

"We Can't Make it Here"
Lyrics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTW0y6kazWM

Vietnam Vet with a cardboard sign
Sitting there by the left turn line
Flag on the wheelchair flapping in the breeze
One leg missing, both hands free
No one's paying much mind to him
The V.A. budget's stretched so thin
And there's more comin' home from the Mideast war
We can't make it here anymore

That big ol' building was the textile mill
It fed our kids and it paid our bills
But they turned us out and they closed the doors
We can't make it here anymore

See all those pallets piled up on the loading dock
They're just gonna set there till they rot
'Cause there's nothing to ship, nothing to pack
Just busted concrete and rusted tracks
Empty storefronts around the square
There's a needle in the gutter and glass everywhere
You don't come down here 'less you're looking to score
We can't make it here anymore

The bar's still open but man it's slow
The tip jar's light and the register's low
The bartender don't have much to say
The regular crowd gets thinner each day

Some have maxed out all their credit cards
Some are working two jobs and living in cars
Minimum wage won't pay for a roof, won't pay for a drink
If you gotta have proof just try it yourself Mr. CEO
See how far 5.15 an hour will go
Take a part time job at one of your stores
Bet you can't make it here anymore

High school girl with a bourgeois dream
Just like the pictures in the magazine
She found on the floor of the laundromat
A woman with kids can forget all that
If she comes up pregnant what'll she do
Forget the career, forget about school
Can she live on faith? live on hope?
High on Jesus or hooked on dope
When it's way too late to just say no
You can't make it here anymore

Now I'm stocking shirts in the Wal-Mart store
Just like the ones we made before
'Cept this one came from Singapore
I guess we can't make it here anymore

Should I hate a people for the shade of their skin
Or the shape of their eyes or the shape I'm in
Should I hate 'em for having our jobs today
No I hate the men sent the jobs away
I can see them all now, they haunt my dreams
All lily white and squeaky clean
They've never known want, they'll never know need
Their sh@# don't stink and their kids won't bleed
Their kids won't bleed in the da$% little war
And we can't make it here anymore

Will work for food
Will die for oil
Will kill for power and to us the spoils
The billionaires get to pay less tax
The working poor get to fall through the cracks
Let 'em eat jellybeans let 'em eat cake
Let 'em eat sh$%, whatever it takes
They can join the Air Force, or join the Corps
If they can't make it here anymore

And that's how it is
That's what we got
If the president wants to admit it or not
You can read it in the paper
Read it on the wall
Hear it on the wind
If you're listening at all
Get out of that limo
Look us in the eye
Call us on the cell phone
Tell us all why

In Dayton, Ohio
Or Portland, Maine
Or a cotton gin out on the great high plains
That's done closed down along with the school
And the hospital and the swimming pool
Dust devils dance in the noonday heat
There's rats in the alley
And trash in the street
Gang graffiti on a boxcar door
We can't make it here anymore

8. Mosh by Eminem..
pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible...
It feels so good to be back..

I scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel and re-energize and rewind
I give sight to the blind, my insight through the mind
I exercise my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight, you take it as I'mma whip someone's ass
If you don't understand, don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi-task
And in juggling both perhaps mastered his craft
Slash entrepreneur who has helped launch a few more rap acts
Who's had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mr. kisses ass crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

Come along follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength
Come with me and I won't steer you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
To the light at the end of the tunnel
We gonna fight, we gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march
Through the swamp, we gonna mosh through the marsh
Take us right through the doors (c'mon)

All the people up top on the side and the middle
Come together lets all bomb and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause don't matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us they can't, we stronger now more than ever
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push, shove, mush, Fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home (c'mon)

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's tryina tell us something,
Maybe this is god just sayin' we're responsible
For this monster, this coward,
That we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head noddin'
How could we allow something like this without pumping our fists
Now this is our final hour
Let me be the voice in your strength and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply by six...
Teen million people, Are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach alqueda through my speech
Let the president answer a higher anarchy
Strap him with an Ak-47, let him go, fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight.

And as we proceed,
To Mosh through this desert storm,
In these closing statements, if they should argue
Let us beg to differ
As we set aside our differences
And assemble our own army
To disarm this Weapon of Mass Destruction
That we call our President, for the present
And Mosh for the future of our next generation
To speak and be heard
Mr. President, Mr. Senator
Do you guy's hear us...hear us... (Hailie)

9. Icky Thump by The White Stripes
does contain the lyrics "White America what/nothing better to do/why don't you kick yourself out/your an immigrant too

Wide Awake by Audioslave was all directed at Bush.

And on that note hopefully Rage will get back together for good and give us a full CD of anti-Bush lyrics.

17. I really hope so too
I love RATM. I mean, okay, so there is the video for...is it Testify, where they play soundbites of Bush and Gore saying the same things? But they couldn't have known back then just how evil Bush was, and I think that Gore has changed a lot personally since then. So I'm not going to hate on them for that.

I love the Battle of Los Angeles CD.

25. Yeah it was Testify
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JSBhI_0at0

One of two Michael Moore directed videos. I actually like the other one, Sleep Now in the Fire, better. I don't think they had any delusions about Bush being better than Gore, but were more pointing out that there really isn't a lot of differences in the two main parties. We need change in what is done, not minor changes in what is said. And at that time 2000 neither was really promising to do anything different from the other. In the time since then it is almost certain, I think, that Gore would have gone about things much differently.

11. I like this one.
Idiot Son Of An Asshole
NOFX

He's not smart, a C student
And that's after buying his way into school
Beady eyes, and he's kinda dyslexic
Can he read? No one's really quite sure
He signs stuff and he executes people
Maybe that's why, he doesn't have any friends
Cocaine and a little drunk driving
Doesn't matter, when you're the Commander in Chief.

Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole
Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole

Put on some make-up, turn on the 8-Track,
I'm putting a week back on the shelf,
Suddenly I'm the President, of the United States,
But then I woke up, and realized I'm still me.

He's too dumb, to eat pretzels, apparently smart enough to fix an election.
Moved boldly into the White House,
but most people voted against him.
He likes naps, He really likes naptime, A couple of naps and then a nap and then he's ready for bed,
He may be from Bush descent, but he's always gonna be the unpresident.

Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole
Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole
Idiot son of an asshole
He's the idiot son of an asshole

He's our president!

13. Oh where to begin...
"Deify" and "Sacred Lie" by Disturbed (both very anti-bush/war); "Come What(ever) May" and "Sillyworld" by Stone Sour; I've heard that there's an anti-bush song on the new Linkin Park CD coming out this month. Here's some snippets of the lyrics:

Deify
All my devotion betrayed
I am no longer afraid
I was too blinded to see
How much you've stolen from me.

You wanna know why
I feel so horrified
I let my innocence die
Wanna know why
I can't be pacified
You made me bury something
I won't be sleeping tonight.

I only wanted the blessing made
Now I've been labeled a renegade
It seems so clear now what I must do

You're no immortal
I won't let them deify you
They view you as the new messiah
Deify you
Renew belief in some demented man.

Sacred Lie
My conviction is stronger today
To uncover your Sacred Lie
And the fear isn't going away
As the soldiers still die

...

Did you know the war is far from over now?
What a stumbling block we've fallen over now
As our brothers die defending no one
The war is far from over now.

Come What(ever) May
Can you take away every single day
That we have given to another false prophet
Can you give us all a reason not to fall
Before you take away another broken promise

Show your pretty face
Hide the bitter taste
You're still the rapist of an entire nation
You wanna be the man
You gotta be a man
But you are nothing but a sad insinuation

How can we ever live this down?

...

You want the world to be free?
What the fuck is free about it!?

And hearing these songs live in concert? WOW. :headbang::headbang::headbang:

14. Murder by Numbers, The Police
It's not new, and it's not specific to * or his cronies, but it definitely apples.

Once that youve decided on a killing
First you make a stone of your heart
And if you find that your hands are still willing
Then you can turn a murder into art

There really isnt any need for bloodshed
You just do it with a little more finesse
If you can slip a tablet into someones coffee
Then it avoids an awful lot of mess

Its murder by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc
Murder by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc

Now if you have a taste for this experience
And youre flushed with your very first success
Then you must try a twosome or a threesome
And youll find your conscience bothers you much less

Because murder is like anything you take to
Its a habit-forming need for more and more
You can bump off every member of your family
And anybody else you find a bore

Because its murder by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc
Murder by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc

Now you can join the ranks of the illustrious
In historys great dark hall of fame
All our greatest killers were industrious
At least the ones that we all know by name

But you can reach the top of your profession
If you become the leader of the land
For murder is the sport of the elected
And you dont need to lift a finger of your hand

Because its murder by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your abc
Murder by numbers, one, two, three
Its as easy to learn as your a, b, c, d, e

19. This one was written in the Reagan years and applies more than ever:
Ship Of Fools (Save Me From Tomorrow)
by World Party

We're setting sail to a place on the map
From which no-one has ever returned
Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool
By the light of the crosses that burned
Drawn by the promise of the wormen and lace
And the gold and the cotton and pearls
It's the place where they keep all the darkness you need
You sail away from the light of the world on this trip, baby

You will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
You will pay tomorrow

Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools, no, no
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools
I want to run and hide
Right now

Avarice and greed are gonna drive you over the endless sea
They will leave you drifting in the shallows
Drowning in the oceans of history
Traveling the world, you're in search of no good
But I'm sure you'll build your Sodom like you knew you would
Using all the good people for your galley slaves
As your little boat struggles through the warning waves
But you don't, pay

You will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow

Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools, no, no
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools, no, no

Where's it coming from
Oh, Where's it going now
It's just a, it's just a Ship of Fools

20. Maybe not "popular," and it was written about Poppy Bush, but...
I think most of Roger Waters' album Amused To Death still qualifies - especially "What God Wants" (three different "parts" of a song that tell how people abuse religion for money and use it to justify wrongdoing) and "The Bravery of Being Out of Range" (which speaks for itself, really).

Sample lyrics:

(from "What God Wants, Part I")
What God wants, God gets, God help us all...
God wants peace, God wants war
God wants famine, God wants chain stores
(...)
God wants crusades, God wants jihad
God wants good, God wants bad.

(from "The Bravery of Being Out of Range")
Hey bartender, over here
Two more shots and two more beers
Sir, turn up the TV sound
The war has started on the ground
Just love those laser-guided bombs
They're really great for righting wrongs
You hit the target and win the game
From bars three thousand miles away
Three thousand miles away
We play the game with the bravery of being out of range
We zap and maim with the bravery of being out of range...

(from "Late Home Tonight, Part I")
The eternal child leafs through his war magazine
And his kind Uncle Sam feeds ten trillion in change
Into the total entertainment combat video game...
(...)
But that's okay, see the children bleed
It'll look great on the TV.

(from "What God Wants, Part II")
God wants friendship, God wants fame
God wants credit, God wants blame
God wants poverty, God wants wealth
God wants insurance, God wants to cover himself.

(from "Amused To Death")
We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told, we bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We oohed and aahed, we drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed lookout spied a flickering light
Our last hurrah...

22. "Waiting On the World To Change" - John Mayer
Waiting On The World To Change

me and all my friends
we're all misunderstood
they say we stand for nothing and
there's no way we ever could
now we see everything that's going wrong
with the world and those who lead it
we just feel like we don't have the means
to rise above and beat it

so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it's hard to beat the system
when we're standing at a distance
so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
now if we had the power
to bring our neighbors home from war
they would have never missed a Christmas
no more ribbons on their door
and when you trust your television
what you get is what you got
cause when they own the information, oh
they can bend it all they want

that's why we're waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it's not that we don't care,
we just know that the fight ain't fair
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

and we're still waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
one day our generation
is gonna rule the population
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
