Help Car Guys/Women! I need to trade my jeep in for a
really tought little car that gets great mileage. I am having to drive a lot doing my pet sitting business and my jeep is too expenseive. I need something tough and comfortable that gets really good mileage. I hate to do this because I love my jeep wrangler. I have always been scared to death to drive in bad weather - but not with my little jeep. It will go anywhere.

Any ideas?

1. Do you want AWD or 4WD?
If so, Subaru has some models that are not so thirsty.

2. My brother is absolutely in love with his Suburu Forrester.
I probably need 4 wheel drive - we get some snow and ice here in the winter.

3. All Subarus have AWD
which is similar, only you can't switch it to 2WD when you don't need it.

4. Do they get around OK in bad weather?
I think my brother's little Forrester gets about 30 miles to the gallon - something close to that anyway.

5. My friend has one - she lives in Minnesota!
She says it handles very nicely with all the shit that falls from the sky there!

6. wouldn't the cost of a new vehicle be more than the gas in your jeep?
If it's a straight swap for used cars; you could be buying a whole bunch of other problems (and expense) over the jeep you know and love. If could take a whole bunch of miles over a number of years to make back your money.

7. If mpg is that high a priority, I would probably remove AWD vehicles from
your list of possibilities as they generally tend to be pretty thirsty. I would just go with something FWD and just buy a set of dedicated snow tires for the winter. Very effective, and certainly the most cost-effective long-term solution.
