NEW YORK - CBS canceled the nuclear apocalypse drama, "Jericho," on Wednesday, another sign that television networks are shying away from serial dramas after overloading on them last season.

The network unveiled a fall schedule with five new shows, three of them dramas.

"Jericho" started out strong last fall for CBS. However, like "Lost" on ABC and "Heroes" on NBC, many viewers abandoned the show after it went on a long midseason hiatus.

"We lost a lot of steam," said Kelly Kahl, CBS' chief scheduling executive. "I know we had loyal viewers ... but the show sort of lost its engine and wasn't performing."



I never got a chance to watch this one, but it looked kind of interesting. Too bad.

2. It was a good show...

They just would not leave it on the schedule. They would show a couple of weeks and then it would be gone for a month. Well DUH they lost viewers. I liked the show, and the cliffhanger season finale, they did not wrap it up. So now you will always wonder if the people of Jericho survived or not.

All the TV stations are stupid, they get good shows then put them on a break for a month or more for the dumbass reality shows, and people give up watching. Then they complain the viewership is not as good as it was before.

...I'm one of those who bailed when they went on their break. If you want to wave a few episodes in my face and then bail for weeks, your choice - but I won't be back when you return.

Jericho is one of the very few TV shows I actually enjoy watching.

It s the last season for StarGate and Battlestar Galictica too

soon there will be NOTHING left but Ugly Betty and Boston Legal <sigh>

That was one of the few shows I made a point to make sure and watch. Now it's pretty much down to "Heroes." I'm sure NBC will cancel that too.
