I've been fighting with the insurance company since I was put on my employer's policy. Employer said I was covered from the first day, Anthem said in 30 days... In the meantime, I'd accumulated nearly $1500 in bills for what my doctor thinks is a gallbladder going bad. But with the insurance company not paying a dime and now getting caught in the pre-existing condition clause, I was looking at April 1,2008 (yes, 2008) before I could have anything done and I can tell you I'm in terrible pain. I need a contrast study that will cost thousands and I cannot pay it myself. Nor could I possibly pay for the surgery to remove it.

My employer argued but I never heard anything. Tonight, after a very, very long day, I get the mail. I have a new insurance card. Effective date? 4/1/07!!!!!!!!!!!

I can get a diagnosis and get rid of this horrible pain that keeps me up at night.

Anyone care to join me in the happy dance??

I just got my first insurance card in the mail two weeks ago. Yes, it's through my husband's work, but it's freaking insurance, baby!!

I'm glad you'll be able to have your pain taken care of. Being in pain is exhausting, especially if it causes you to lose sleep.

22. Lizzie - don't ever wait on something this critical .......

The gallbladder is something not to be messed with. Get thee to an ER (look in your planbook and make sure the hospital is one of their participating hospitals) and worry/hassle about the fees later. If your employer guarantees that you have health insurance as of a specific date - you have plenty of leverage with the insurance co. They will do much to deny any and all claims that come their way. Believe me, I do medical billing and it becomes increasingly difficult to jump through the hoops and dodge the obstacles they set in the way of paying claims.
