As I related here not long ago, my sister moved back up to Indiana, taking her chocolate lab Lady with her.
The move went-- well, not smoothly, but things are sorting out and settling down now. She moved in with an old high school buddy of hers until she can buy a house. They're having a good time getting close-up reacquainted.
As for Lady- she was naturally freaked somewhat, but she gradually settled into the beginning of a new life. Everybody instantly fell victim to her beauty and intelligence, so she's made over a dozen new friends she can play with. My sister said Lady kept looking for me for the longest time- a sad tribute from a puppy girl I'll always be in love with.
Lady has also found her reason for life- one of the young lady friends has an infant child, and the first instant Lady saw the child, she decided to become his protector. Now when they come over, the child is placed upon the floor, and Lady comes over, stretches around him, puts her nose ever so gently upon the chest of the baby, and DARES anybody to approach. She'll lie there protecting the child for hours if necessary. NOBODY gets by her except her mother.
I really wish I had pictures of that.
I miss them both.
