Bush at MLK Jr.'s Grave: "Drive-By Wreathing"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A28307-2004Jan18.html

LTTE:

President Bush participates in a drive-by wreathing of Martin Luther King Jr.'s tomb in Atlanta so that he can charge his fundraising trip to the taxpayers. What would Dr. King say?

Mr. Bush's Republican Party contains not a single African American member in the Senate or the House, and his administration argued against affirmative action before the Supreme Court.

What would Dr. King think?

GEORGE Z. BANKS
Oakland, Calif.

1. I just wish there was a provision to force the republican party
to pay for these "photo-op" trips of his.. He is just out panhandling, and it's not fair that the whole country has to pay for it..

They railed against Clinton when he did it, and I did not think it was fair then either.. If they want to galavant around the country campaigning, then their party needs to PAY FOR IT..

It costs a lot of money to fly him around, and a 5 minute photo op does not justify it.. especially when they did not even WANT him to come..

2. Do you think
that enough voters will see through the stunt so that it doesn't have the effect *'s handlers wanted?

3. Here's to hoping!
This administration has given the public so much ammunition to use, I hope they see through it. I hope the dems continue to attack KKKarl because if they go after his "bully" we all know bullies can dish it out but not take it. If his handler's start to lose it, his whole campaign is in trouble.

I hope the american people get at least a glimpse of how dirty these guys play.

4. Substitute "Iraq" for "Vietnam" ....
MLK from A Time to Break Silence, April 4, 1967: "Somehow this madness must cease. We must stop now. I speak as a child of God and a brother to the suffering poor in Vietnam. I speak for those whose land is being laid waste, whose homes are being destroyed, whose culture is being subverted. I speak for the poor of America who are paying the double price of smashed hopes at home and death and corruption in Vietnam. I speak as a citizen of the world, for the world stands aghast at the path we have taken. I speak as an American to the leaders of my own nation. The great initiative in this war is ours. The initiative to stop it must be ours."

6. Ain't it the truth. This struck me especially:
"whose culture is being subverted." The whole thing works if you sub I for V, but that phrase especially... makes me shake my head.

5. Apt
After all, he was only there for fifteen minutes. It was big of Mrs. King to hold his hand during the ceremony.
