1. LOL!!!!
You know it's a fucked up diet when bread is off the menu! Give me bread or give me death. I can go without pasta, but that's got nothing to do with Atkins.

8. I have a job interview coming up Friday, so I went back on Atkins
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 10:03 PM by stopbush
a couple of days ago to drop the holiday pounds. Every little bit helps with the interviews these days!

I'm doing the initial phase pretty religiously - no breads, low carb, lots of protein and generous servings of the allowed vegetables. I'm a big water drinker, so that helps with Atkins. I also walk 4-5 miles a day, but that's normal whether I'm dieting or not. I'm not hungry at all - I live in Vegas and I actually hit the buffet at the Mandalay Bay the other night, just to pack in the protein.

The results?: ten days in, and I went from my 36" waist pants to my 33" waist jeans - and with no squeezing anything in (outside of my unusually huge pen... :).

Eating my heart out? Nope. Eating my gut off? Yep!

25. Dude!
That's not what Atkins is for! I don't approve of it, in general, but even and Atkins supporter would tell you that going up and down and up and down on and off and on and off is just playing havoc on your body and your long-term health.

27. I follow Atkins pretty religiously, especially the maintenance part
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 03:45 AM by stopbush
but if you visit the website, you'll see that it's perfectly OK to do the 2-week induction phase to the diet more than once. I wasn't too clear about that in my initial post when I stated I was "back on Atkins." Poor choice of words.

This is the first time I've gone back to the induction phase since I first went on Atkins 2 years ago. I'm hardly yo-yoing. It's just that I ate a lot of carbs over the holidays and the weather turned a bit cold for me to keep up with my exercise routine. My induction period ends Saturday, then I go back on the maintenance routine (the particulars of which are different for everyone. I tend to avoid the empty carbs of alchohol and breads and that seems to do the trick for me).

But thanks for your concerns.

16. Spaghetti Squash!
Funny, I clicked on this link just after I sat down to a nice plate of spaghetti squash with chicken alfredo sauce. Delicious...

Squash is good for you. Who needs the empty calories of pasta?

17. Ha, ha!

I ate at Macaroni's last night. I had half the T-bone steak (cooked exactly as I asked for it) with broccoli and carrots, some potatoes, and washed it down with a couple of glasses of red wine. I even ate some of the bread dipped in olive oil. I topped it all off with Bailey's on ice - my favorite dessert. I got on the scale this morning, quaking a bit in apprehension, and found I had lost another 1/2 pound. While I ate more carbs than usual, I still had a decent count for the day. Yummmmm!

Edit: Finally, after two weeks, I'm not even very hungry any more. I'm one of those folks who LOVES carbs and when I eat them I starve for more. I've cut out all sugar and refined products, but I do eat unrefined carbs and even small amounts of potatoes and brown rice. I've lost 7 pounds even though I'm not following the strictest routine. I just started in "phase 2". So far, it's working great.

26. I hate to burst your bubble...
but don't trust your scale on increments as low as half a pound. Bathroom scales just aren't that accurate. Hell, according to my scale my bpdy weight fluctuates more than a half a pound every day. That's why you should only get on the thing about once a week. Otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts trying to figure out what you "did" to "gain" or "lose" that half a pound that's really just margin of error or water or the barometric pressure. :-)

22. I don't miss pasta at all
and I don't miss bread near as much as I did sausage and cheese on a low fat diet. It still requires some moderation.
