Poll question: Baclava: Love It or Shove It?
Come on.

Tell us how you really feel about those yummy layers of delicate phyllo, with butter, honey, nuts, cinnamon, and more? Too good to be true? Or disgusting mess, so sweet it hurts your teeth?

Anybody got a good recipe, by the way?

1. Love them!
The butter tarts in Canada are similar, but nothing like baklava!

6. LOL!
David, you're just gonna have to find yourself a nice Greek girl who can cook and bake all of that wonderful Greek food and pastry! Just don't have a wedding like My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

9. No need. That's why Middle Eastern bakeries were invented.
I can buy my way to fat-hood. In fact, I already did once. :o

5. But what about the CARBS, man!
A well-made baclava is a feast worthy of Zeus himself. A bad one is like biting into a car tire drizzled with treacle. I love to cook, but have never attempetd baclava, as I grew up around some ancient Greek grandmas who made the best, and I know my amateur efforts would fall short.

11. I'm Armenian and I LOVE it !!
and we also make variations on the recipe, either using shredded phyllo dough (khadayif) or rolling each phyllo sheet full of the other ingredients like a cigar (boorma)

But we tend to use a simple sugar syrup instead of honey.

In fact, I had some yesterday. My mother makes it with Southern Comfort and it's a Christmas tradition around here.

21. Here is the link for Ali Baba's and the great dessert they make!
"For dessert, Ali Baba offers a handful of pastries, from the familiar Baklava ($1) to the more unusual Halawa Bi-Jibn ($1.25), a farina cake rolled around whipped cheese and topped with crushed pistachios and orange and rose water syrup. Petite bites each, they offer a sweet ending to a warm and satisfying meal."

22. Love the stuff.
My recipe involves rosewater and pomegranate molasses along with the usually mix of nuts and sugar. If you want to cut down on the shudderworthy level of sweetness, use more nuts and less sugar.

23. I love baclava
And I make a mean one, even though I am Irish/Scottish heritage. But yours sounds amazingly mouth wateringly good, because I love pomegranates even more than baclava. In fact I just ate a really sweet California pomegranate. Is there any way you can tell me your recipe? or is it secret?
